The Gentlemen (2024)
An Insult to the viewers
This show is all over the place. I watched till episode 5 and that pretty much did it for me.
The premise is as per description, a duke inherits from his father, finds illegal operation running on his property, and due to certain circumstances, allows it to continue. This is all great until you actually start watching further, and episode by episode, you can feel the story degrading in quality.
The main character is shown as a mature, reasonable and intelligent man, who would take rational decisions until he is forced to do otherwise. This development takes a complete u-turn, and now he would be willing to participate in illegal activities without there being any urgency attached to it.
From what I've seen, here is a breakdown of the template that this show follows -
-Main guy or his associates get in trouble.
-Need help from someone to sort it out.
-Go to that person, but they demand something else in return, essential a secondary task.
-Perform secondary task where usually someone dies.
-Go back to the first person and take reward.
-Get into more problems with that person, which is essentially a twist to the whole episode's development.
A few good things that can be said about the show is the cinematic experience, especially in the first 2 episodes. Music is average and often plays too loudly over the dialogue. Some actors are not fit for their role, and some good actors are used very less.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Not a good sequel
Suspend your disbelief as you delve into yet another mission impossible movie, only this this with less coherent story line, long uninteresting action scenes, and too many last second saves. This was felt more like a playstation game with Quick Time Events, only you are not in control.
Let me break it down to the 3 main issues.
Action: Some of the action scenes in the movie are extremely long, and too often, making it a tiring watch. No doubt it has some of the greatest action scenes ever recorded, but that doesn't make it an interesting watch.
Dialogues: Generic dialogues bring down the sincerity and reduces it to a school theatre play. The philosophy of show, not tell, is reversed here and we are subjected to long description of each event that has happened or is about to occur. This makes this action movie even more boring to watch.
Storyline: If I compare it to previous MI installment, this movie has the weakest storyline of it all. The main antagonist is extremely generic, and the main henchman is uncharismatic to say the least. They have wasted good story buildups of previous movies, specifically wasting the talent of Rebecca Ferguson.
I would recommend to watch this once and get it over with, and not be too optimistic about the next MI movie as they have demolished an action movie franchise for a quick cash grab.
Blue Lock (2022)
A Mature Anime.
I'll be a man and accept this, I cried in some episodes. No other movie or TV show has made me cry, ever. This could be because I felt connected to the characters so much, I could see myself going through their emotions, their passion, their determination and most of all, their choices.
Each character arc is so well done, you see them grow with each episode, discovering new things about themselves as they improve their soccer skills. This is not just anime, this a journey into the human psych, and the range of emotions present inside it. Each emotions presents a new challenge for personal development, which the characters accept, adapt and overcome to move forward.
The animation style is well done and music is really good.
I highly recommend watching this show.
The Railway Men: The Untold Story of Bhopal 1984 (2023)
A very good and gripping show.
The railway men is a really good and gripping show. What I liked the most is the tense and suspenseful atmosphere that the show managed to create throughout its runtime. Even though we know how things unfolded, the director did a really good job of not loosening the stress for bathos. The characters are well developed, their motivations are clear, and we do see them grow as the episode progresses. The actors also do justice to their characters. The camerawork, sound design, set and lighting seems near perfect. This brings even more immersion into an already interesting storyline.
Even though I liked the overall show, there seems to be a lack of completion in the story, especially the aftermath of the tragedy. I think it would have been better for the show if it would have shown more grievances of the victims, and shed some more light on the culprits responsible for this tragedy. Instead, that was completely omitted out, showing only few scenes that the reporter witnessed. Hopefully, Netflix does a documentary style movie of the same.
Leo (2023)
What is the purpose of films like this?
I have watched some really interesting movies of the Actor Vijay, and I hoped this would bring something new to the table. Spoilers alert, it doesn't.
What this movie does instead is bring you more cliché, with uninteresting dialogues and bad CGI. The motivations of characters are extremely unclear, they are just following a very linear path to reach the end. It's like the climax of the movie is already known, we are only sitting there to suffer the badly choreographed action sequences and horrible CGI. The worst culprit of all is the background music that is played in almost every scene. Not once did it match the theme of the scene being displayed on the screen. Music and song selection hinders any type of connection you were going to make to the characters or their emotions.
The actors in the movie are good, but the scripts limits their ability to deliver anything meaningful. The script is so weak, I was left wondering how much money was offered to the actors to ignore all good common sense and just accept the job. I don't see anything good coming out of the writers in the future if they think this is their successful movie writing attempt. The director should have had a clear vision of what their movie should be like, not a hot mess of multiple ideas stitched together.
In conclusion, watch this movie if you want, but you will be disappointed by the plot, the music and most of all, the directors choices for this movie.
Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side (2020)
Read this and save your time.
I wasn't excited too much after the first season. But my wife insisted to watch the second season, and as expected, it wasn't good at all.
There were lots of plot holes, contrived storylines and inconsistent pacing. It felt rushed many times as characters were just moving from one location to another very quickly, removing any sense of reality. There were actions taken by good guys that they shouldn't have been able to get away. The bad guys, who were shown to have great number of followers in the first season, just vanished in the second without any proper explanation.
But this is still not as big of a crime as some of the main characters. Naina, who is an "ethical" hacker, can get into any system as per request. This near perfect character not only gave me cringe, but also ruined any sense of seriousness of the situation that the heroes were in. She can break encryption, locate targets, solve puzzles and whatnot in a matter of seconds, along with passing snarky comments on colleagues. And when she isn't doing that, she's either crying or angry in other scenes. Apart from her, the main antagonist's older version wasn't as good as the teen actor hired to play the role of Shubh. I think that ruined the villian character for me.
Apart from this, there were so many logical and technical issues in story it will take too long and a possible rewatch to list them all. Here are a few examples of mistakes that I can remember:
- When tracking the village of main villian, the GPS shows extremely quick movement, whereas the dialog indicates it will take 30 mins to reach it.
- Nikhil able to see events unfold in heavy crowd, in the direction where he's not even looking.
- Nikhil and Nusrat surviving the final scene where they were gassed with smoke and no help arrived on screen.
- Bad guys never locking their computer screen or applying password protection of any kind so that the good guys can conviniently walk in and start working.
- Using technical buzzwords to explain things which in reality means absolutely nothing.
- Some storylines left unexplored that could have added more depth.
Now some for tech savvy people:
- Naina writing a JavaScript code in typescript file.
- Hacking code is mostly switch cases and if conditions.
- Hello World seen in multiple places along with words like 'test input'.
- Super fast wireless internet speed in the remotest of locations, even underground.
- Almost every username and password containing 123 or @123.
- Childish GUIs in hacking scenes, Access granted and access denied prompts being the funniest ones.
True Lies (2023)
Not even close to what was expected
I watched the movie a few days ago. Found out about this show and thought this could further expand on some more action-comedy. But it was a disappointment. Firstly, the dialogue was not at all good, it was pretty generic and felt like written by a chatbot. No emotions whatsoever in any conversation.
The actors are not that good either. Their acting feels robotic and it feels that they are delivering the lines just to get through the script. The first episode itself was so bad I didn't had any interest left to continue to watch further episodes. I think the producers should have invested in better scripts and actors.
Free Guy (2021)
The BS is off the charts.
They have just one ok thing in this movie, a somewhat unique premise. Everything else is just annoying. The actors are horrible, cgi looks stupid and action looks very mediocre. Ryan is a good actor, but the story lets him down.
Also, please consult some real programmers to know how coding works. Loads of BS technical terms thrown around with no real meaning. Plus the propaganda is disgusting.
Loki (2021)
Not what I expected.
Well, I kept my expectations high on this, and I'm utterly disappointed. The very thing that made Endgame a flawed motion picture, is the premise of this show, Time Travel. Moreover, there is an authority that "controls" the time flow, and is not known by god themselves. On top of that, justifying time travels for the avengers as "Supposed to happen" and by Loki and others as not, doesn't make a very strong plot premise, in fact makes it flawed from the beginning.
And from the final scenes of the first episode itself, it looks like it is going to be a detective show, much like Lucifer(Which is good), only with huge plot holes and mildly interesting story. I believe they could have made an origins story for Loki, but they stuck with timeline of the Avengers to make it somehow relevant.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Not much depth in story, highly overrated.
I think the creators did not plan out the story properly. First episode is done well, but consecutive episodes have too many plot holes and questionable decisions. What actually happens in the story negates the motivation of character, and even their personalities. Moreover, the acting is average, which makes things worse.
I liked the CGI work, it is remarkable for something on television. Also the setup is very good with natural looking locations. Sound work is also on point. Character dialogues are not that good, feels extremely generic.
I have no idea of the books that this story is inspired from, but from what I watched, it makes the books look bad. They tried too hard creating a lore, forgetting it requires good storytelling.
This series is watchable but I won't root for a second season.
The Expanse (2015)
Nothing stands out except the story
The plot of this show is one of the most unique I have seen on TV. It becomes even better with the CGI made for this show. However, Acting and pacing of the story is not so good. Season 3 1/2 onwards is a borefest.
The Witcher (2019)
Supernova Start, Black Hole End
Episode 1 was fantastic. Introduction of each characters were done near perfection. Action scene was also nice and in-spite of bad CGI, the episode was enjoyable. However, the goodness did not last very long. The script went off balance, the story started feeling more jumbled and incoherent. Timeline was completely messed up and dialogues weren't better either. Only consistent thing in the entire series is Henry Cavill's acting skills, rest all goes down the drain.
I think the writers should have done a better job by playing witcher games before writing the plot lines.
The Boys (2019)
Strong start, Weak Ending
With all the cringe content available of different streaming platforms, The Boys was a welcome change. I really liked the settings, dialogues and characters. Each characters is relatable to people we see around us, with character flaws of each making them unique from other superhero sagas. I liked the overall tone and message this show sends out to people. However, last 3 episodes took a very fast and boring turn. Looks like writers were in a hurry to reach the end, so they just let go of a good 5 episode buildup. Everything felt rushed and story did not make much sense after that. Also, this show has one of the worst cliffhangers I have ever witnessed. It's definitely worth a watch, and I would have rated it better, if only the drama was played out properly.
Captain Marvel (2019)
This is my last review on IMDB.
Firstly, why is IMDB removing 1 or 2 stars rating from this movie? The movie rating went up from 6.3 to 7.1, which has never happened before. Now about the movie, except the background music, nothing is good. So many jump cuts to make one action sequence clearly exposes the lack of choreography. Action scene containing CGI are laughable, especially considering this movie is made under marvel's banner. Secondly, Brie Larson can't run. Seriously, she don't know how to run. It was the sole funny moment for me when she was running weirdly in different scenes. Apart from that, the story is pretty generic, nothing out of the blue from other origin movies. I don't even remember the names of characters that I saw, most of them were insignificant. Dialogue delivery is also pathetic, felt like it was being read off script like in a school recital. For me, this movie doesn't do Marvel universe or Stan Lee justice. Hell, Black Panther is rated 7.3 and it was astronomically better than this drivel.
Legacies (2018)
Its like training a dead horse
I am generally excited about sci-fi/ fantasy shows, but this one cannot be classified as 'good'. I liked Vampire Diaries and The Originals before both of them became tedious to watch. However, this show never seems to take off on a high note. The lore has no depth, characters come and go, plus reveal of 'the villain" is the cliche to almost all fantasy series, making this show even less interesting. Some actors are not the best fit for their role. Moreover, the dialogues are so poorly written that you barely get interested in what's being conveyed. Only good things that I can find are the set design, background music, and to some extent CGI, but they fail to get complemented by everything else. Even though I am going to watch it further ,just to see where the story goes, I wouldn't recommend this over other fantasy series.
Morgan (2016)
Wasn't fun to watch.
I did not experience the supposed thrill/horror that this movie promises. The plot wasn't original, screenplay was mediocre and dialogues were uninteresting. Similar movies have been made in the past, but leaving comparison aside, I was expecting some more of twists and turns. However this turned out to be one of the most cliched story lines of all. I would safely say that this is one movies you can miss out on.
God Friended Me (2018)
I'm confused, whose propaganda is this?
First episode was alright, grew my curiosity about how they are going to play out the rest of the show. Second episode was kind of touching, helping an autistic kid realize his passion. Up until here, I was thinking, it's obviously some christian propaganda, as god goes out of his way to prove to a single individual that he exists, while thousands around the world perish everyday.
Then comes the third episode, which made it absolutely clear that Liberal TV channel CBS is running their own propaganda. I don't mind LGBT based show, but putting it somewhere where its of no use is just appalling. They just keep trying to link Christianity with their own liberal mindset.
Moreover, the plot of each episode is similar to investigation type tv shows. IMO, look for good content elsewhere, because this show has none.
The Middle (2009)
Not so funny
If this was a drama series, I may have rated it higher. Unfortunately, under the banner of comedy, this show is not upto the mark. The script is pretty bland, and situational comedy is very scarce. I barely got giggles in 1-2 episode of 1st season and it was solely on mishaps of Sue Heck. Second season just finished it for me, wasn't able to watch it any further because the characters became more uninteresting than before, and the script became even weaker.
I understand what the writers were going for, angry rants from mom, awkward situation and whining from children, and don't care attitude from dad; but it did not go in their favor. It felt a little too forced, which obviously does not count as comedy. Not worth your time to watch this poorly produced show.
Race 3 (2018)
Oh, The Humanity!
This is why aliens don't visit earth. People are becoming more and more dumb by watching this type of crap. Even good actors look bad in this movie because this movie has bad script. And bad actors look even worse the more you watch them. I somehow gathered all my strength and patience to watch this despite bad reviews, on Amazon prime videos, and thanks to them, I didn't have to waste money to suffer this cringe fest.
Race 3 is 2 1/2 hours of human embarrassment. Basically a launch party, trying to introduce new faces(or more accurately, feces) in Bollywood under the banner of Salman Khan. It seriously makes me question the mentality of public, who went out in droves to watch this pile of crap.
Action scenes are complete disgrace to the brand of action movies. Trying to copy some of the best scenes from other movies, and failing in each of them with flying colors. No one knows how to properly make green screen CGI. I mean even small youtubers are making movie quality CGI with way less resources.
All in all, if you are feeling a bit depressed, go watch this movie, you'll fell better knowing you can act better and write better stories. Oh wait, you might get more depressed knowing this movie made 280cr while you drag your ass to work everyday to make ends meet. Ciao!
Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)
More cringe than comedy
The first part was average. The second is just painful to watch. More screams than any horror movies, everyone screaming at each other. Writers think that's funny in some way, but not even good to make kids laugh. Storyline is pretty much the same as the first one, only with new characters. Cameo appearance from Jamie Foxx was pretty good, rest was annoing AF.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Not much to watch.
Episode 1 and 8 sums up the entire series. Rest are just fillers episodes with no real feel to it. Jack Ryan series came in too late with too little to the genre, as the same story line has been repeated to its grave by other Detective/Spy TV series.
Did not get Tom Clancy's vibe at all, like it is in his video games titles. Books maybe good, haven't read it, but the series is disappointing. Actors are pretty decent, but narration let this series down.

Trapped (2016)
Seriously, this is the script?
Trapped in an apartment with lots of tools and can't get out. If he just looked to his left of door, there is a hinge, which can be removed from the inside, making the door easy to break open. As for how, well its a well furnished apartment, and he already have those pliers type thing. Screws/nails can be obtained form wall-sockets/electrical devices/furniture. He also has fire, if the door is flammable, or if hinges do not come out easily. Barely takes 10-20 minutes to open the damn thing. Probably didn't took a single class in college he went to. What a shame.
Supergirl (2015)
Why does this even exist?
This show is the worst the television has to offer. Bad Story, horrible actors, cheap CGI and boring dialogues. While other DC comic shoes like Gotham and Arrow has some seriousness to it, this show is just ridiculous. Basically, this is a copied version of superman, but with everything worse.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Entertaining movie with some Loopholes
First of all, Full marks for the action and CGI of the film. It was mesmerizing as always. The storyline is different than other Marvel movies, in this one, the Villain wins. Other than that, it's the same action adventure that other avenger movies are famous for.
Now for the bad part, If you start making logical conclusions out of the script, there are a lot of loopholes and shortcomings. Firstly, No other government forces show up to fight against Thanos, in spite of Warmachine warning them of upcoming event and the reunion of Avengers. Do they not care enough to fight for their lives? Secondly, why does the army of wakanda has Spears and swords rather than guns. I did not watch the Black Panther movie, but when these people have flying cars and ultra sophisticated technology, did they miss out on inventing/using guns? Thirdly, Almost all the final stones that Thanos need are just handed over by the avengers or their allies. And they are trying at all to defend life in the universe? Lastly, the characters are emotionally weak, which eventually leads to their downfall. Starlord does it twice, once by not killing Gamora when she asks him to do so, and other by waking up Thanos when Avengers are about to remove the infinity gauntlet from him. Also, Dr. Strange turns out to be useless for the avengers, as he not only jeopardise the avengers plans, but also voluntarily gives away time stone, which he could have used to easily defeat Thanos.
All in all, if you are just looking for an avenger movie , then this certainly does not disappoint. However, if you are looking for the level of writing that is seen in the comic books, then this movie does makes the cut. I know for sure they are going to spin it somehow in the next marvel movie, but this movie as a standalone, is at best, mediocre.
