The Lost Sons (2021)
Unimaginably Complex Real Life Story
I am glad that the mystery of the two Pauls were resolved by the end of the story. I was a bit disappointed that the biological sister and brother didn't want to meet Paul. Perhaps they wanted to keep something in the family hidden, such as a murder or manic parent. Or they didn't want someone who is mostly a stranger to come in and demand a share of the inheritance. We may never know.
I found it creepy that the maltreated twins were called Jack and Jill. All I can think of is the "Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water/ Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after" nursery rhyme. Quite possibly, we have here the making of a horror story. And Jill might have been gone many years ago.
I also wished the kidnapped Paul and his family had shown their faces.
The story has a lot of holes still. Perhaps internet sluthes have to work a bit harder to uncover the rest of the tale.
Massive Engineering Mistakes (2019)
Lack of Expert Testimony
The narration and video footage is spectacular to listen to and watch. However, as another reviewer states and I agree - the choice of talking heads is questionable and puts the validity of what they say into doubt. Why are we hearing from a neuroscientist, biochemist, and chemical engineer? Why are we not getting the actual architects and engineers to speak? If not the ones involved in the disasters, then we should at least be hearing from other architects, structural or civil engineers, building envelope engineers, roofing experts, building code specialists, or geotechnical engineer.
Every time a speaker's name and job title is displayed, I end up distracted.
He Yi Sheng Xiao Mo (2015)
Jarring Mistakes Leads to Lower Ratings
Mosheng gets a super short haircut but then reverts to her previo haircut in the scene where she and her friend plots how to lure Yicheng to the theatre. Yet another haircut shows up on the same timeframe, just even later in the evening, after the movies.
The Caucasian actors and actresses seem to have been picked without much consideration. Many speak unintelligible English. Perhaps Russian or other European languages? The accent is so thick it's unintelligible. And the worse offender is the landlord lady portrayed near the end, who spoke no English at all and yet Mosheng is replying in Chinese.
The younger boy that Mosheng was the guardian to was not friendly and spoke no Chinese. The older boy actor also lacked acting skills and seemed out of it.
Sometimes the background music is so loud it's more like foreground music and makes it next to impossible to know what was being said.
Not all of the Chinese actors spoke clear English. The worse offender was Yin Hui, whose deep voice and accent contributed to my frustration. Netflix didn't seem to bother trying to provide subtitles for the supposedly English lines. Which increases my frustration.
Falling for Christmas (2021)
Poorly Researched, Unrealistic and Tacky
I have worked in the architecture industry for nearly a decade. Not once have I encountered an architect who doesn't know how to build a physical model or use 3D rendering software. True models are not built with masking tape but with white glue or heat guns to hide the seams.
This movie is unrealistic and stilted in tone and presentation. It fails to get me to suspend disbelief, which also means it fails at creating a magical and enchanting Christmas environment as the characters lack depth of experience and perception. The screenwriters should have tried the storyline on architects prior to attempting this. It is not believable that a grown son is going to inherit his father's architecture and engineering business when he lacks the basic understanding and training to run it. Total incompetence.
When a Man Loves (2013)
Great Story But Set Design Flawed
The lead female actress goes to a construction site in heels and wears her helmet incorrectly with the helmet looped completely behind her ear, instead of snuggly around both sides of her ear. The guys are wearing their helmet correctly. But dress shoes on a construction site is another no no!
Murphy's Law of Love (2015)
Characters Not Believable, Prop Fail
Ji Jia Wei, one of the main actors, is cold. He also looks more like a kid than a businessman.
Polo, JJW's dog, supposedly chewed up Guan Xiao Tong's heels. But if you carefully studied the shoes, you would of realized that she was wearing a beautiful pair of silver stilettos. The stiletto itself was silver in color. The fabric was of a different constuction than the pair the dog supposedly wrecked. That one was of a different brand (I compared the lining). And the exterior was cheap glitter. The other one seemed to be made up of silver metallic flakes. Of course, if the dog chewed that, it would get really sick. The stiletto also had some metallic bow. The busted one looks cheap. The one Xiao Tong lent the lady who wanted to commit suicide by jumping actually looks expensive.
Zhi Yu seems to have been played by someone resembling or in fact also played the role of JJW's mom. If you studied the mummified Zhi Yu, the exposed skin is dark, the lip is dark red and puffy. I guess you could say the auto crash ruined her looks. But really, it looked like she was played by someone else.
JJW's mom is not likeable at all. She is a shallow person. And her face looks like it went under the knife and had one too many botched cosmetic surgeries.
The movie doesn't show the exterior of JJW's supposedly splendid home.
I couldn't watch the whole thing. Had to skip parts because it doesn't take me into another more and make me forget reality. I would have liked the movie more if the main actor was the chef (Xiao Tong's boss' son).
Noble, My Love (2015)
Terribly Exaggerated and Cheaply Done
Not a fan of the couple in this story. The man is neither funny nor handsome. He's too mean. The girl is extremely submissive. The storyline is unexceptional. Then again, when you get 20 episodes and each no more than 15 or so minutes, a short and simple storyline is probably all that can be expected.
With regards to the guy's house, I'm convinced they filmed the exterior of a large mansion and combined it with filming a cheap condo. The furnishings inside the home don't have the typical opulence found in other kdrama involving a rich guy/ poor girl. A rich guy and IKEA quality bed for him and her's not much better. Cheap pressboard furniture. The bedroom he assigns her in his house is hideous. The wall art is tiny and truly look like Walmart variety. I watch drama for the interior design, costuming and architecture in addition to the plot development. This one probably cost very little to produce. But as a result, it doesn't transport me away from reality and keep me enthralled.
This one is a waste of time.
