Pearl (2020)
Had great potential, but ended with too much UNRESOLVED
Characters were underdeveloped, the climactic point wasn't developed enough either. It just left me hanging at the end. If the movie had been given more time, it could have been truly excellent, but there were too many characters who had conflicts/things to settle with the main character, Pearl. These never got resolved at the end. At the end I was thinking, "What about the struggle with this person? The issue this person has?" Well, you don't get to know what happens to them. So although the movie could have been great, there was about a half hour or more that seems to have been cut off at the end. The movie does draw an important point: Americans are greatly spoiled, and Pearl was a great example of this. Maybe the writer was thinking in that same spoiled mind frame, not taking to account what happens to the other characters. Hence, I give it five stars for some good parts, but really that made it all the more disappointing when a couple of main characters/issues were, for lack of better wording, just thrown out the window.
Demon Nun (2020)
$250K Budget could still get a much better script
I'm sorry but the writing is just not good. I think the acting would even be much better if these people had a good script. These actors may be of less experience, but I think they probably know the difference between a good dialogue and an unrealistic bad one. Just poorly done...for the first ten minutes, which is all I saw but that was more than enough to see this isn't worth watching. That's just me, though. See for yourself.
House of Shadows (2020)
Well, the music was good...
...but the writing was poor, the acting needed some serious improvements, and it was overall hard to watch without cracking jokes.
Liars, Fires and Bears (2012)
Development
It was a nice film in many ways, and has some good, unique qualities. As independent films go, the story was original in several senses. However, the characters could've been much better developed in a lot of ways. Lines had these poetic parts to them which were good, but there are other parts where lines were needed but they were lacking. Certain characters, like Eve's foster parents, were hardly developed at all, and only appeared at the beginning and end of the film, which wasn't so good. Eve also seemed just a little too serious and quiet for a real child her age. It was still a sweet film in a lot of ways. It's just some roles could've been more developed.
Would You Rather (2012)
Violent, Semi-Predictable, Rather Unmoving Torture Porn
It was relatively entertaining. The characters are built enough to have some connection with them, only to see them tortured in awful situations. A nasty villain, etc. along with some average type of people. However it was all a little predictable, including the ending. If you want to see a violent film that gives you some rush, it's alright. It's like a more violent version of the movie Clue, which I found probably to be more entertaining at the time, granted it was made in 1985. Of course Clue was also a comedy. But if you just like seeing people bashed in a serious, dramatic environment, you might like this.
