Chaos Walking (2021)
Lots of Potential
Chaos Walking definitely had potential, but doesn't quite hit the mark. It's easy to feel connected to the characters sometimes, but at other times they feel too fabricated.
The premise is good, although could be better explained, and a little less filler would have been a welcomed addition. Tom and Daisy have good on-screen chemistry and were well cast.
I felt that there were elements that were very reminiscent of Book of Eli when it comes to being hunted, the preacher, and the challenges of the trip.
Of the shortfalls, the movie is worth a Netflix watch overall, it isn't a waste of time by any means, and is entertaining.
Uncharted (2022)
National Treasure, but not as good
This film is a disappointing mess, on the premise that's already been done. Watching this movie can be compared to National Treasure in almost every way, except Marky Mark seems to have gone the route of Shia Lebouf a la Transformers (a whiney cry-baby), and I say that as a fan of Mark Whalberg.
Everything that happens is predicable and can be seen a mile out, that said the movie is somewhat entertaining.
If you find yourself looking for something to watch, and not sure what to go with, rather than scrolling for another 10 minutes, go ahead and give this one a go. But, if you have to pay to watch it, maybe find something more worth your money.
Doll House (2022)
Slow, but worthwhile
I'm not overly familiar with Filipino movies and TV, and drama isn't really my thing, but I agreed to watch this one with my wife.
It is slow paced, but I can see why Baron is considered a good actor, he has a charisma in this movie that makes him likeable, and even somewhat relatable.
I'm not sure how closely the movie follows a real life story, but I don't think it was as predicable as other reviewers suggest, at least not when compared with Hollywood dramas. Of course there are scenes that can be predicted, but some of the foreshadowing didn't fit with what I had anticipated, such as when Yumi told Tito to apologize, and what may have transpired at the cemetery.
The movie could have ended in one of two different ways, even with the opening scene, and they opted for a sad ending, which was a bit disappointing, it could have been a tear-jerker both ways.
All in all, it was worth the watch, give it a go and don't dwell on reviewer's opinions too much.
Easter Sunday (2022)
Pretty Terrible
Like many other reviewers, I would have to say this movie is terrible, boring, and full of tropes and jokes that have been done a dozen times. Cameos and appearances don't add any value, and attempts at heartwarming scenes are transparent.
I know it's a comedy, but situations portrayed are far fetched and don't deliver humor.
It would be be compared to a half-baked, bomb comparable to any b-movie, with the only draw being a name and unfettered Filipino pride.
Every character is flat, insulting, and poorly thought-out. I'm not sure why each character is jerk, but that's the feeling.
I have enjoyed Jo's standup, but this was a waste of time and really missed the mark. Even from a Filipino perspective, there's nothing about this movie that would be enjoyable.
Yes Day (2021)
Family Movie
This is a good family movie, a feel good, goofy movie that can keep the whole family entertained. It's not meant to be serious, or even plausible, it's a fun movie for the whole family.
The War with Grandpa (2020)
A great family movie
I don't understand the negativity around this one. It's a family movie, and suits the bill nicely, something the whole family can watch and enjoy.
Is it a little absurd at times, yes, but it's not about realism, it's about entertainment.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
A fun, but illogical flick
The Tomorrow War was a fun action flick, that had time travel, sentiment, and comedy all in one...but the filmmakers forgot about the space-time continuum and that knowing too much about one's future is dangerous.
If you can set aside any logical actions, and look at the action, it's great. Turn the brain off and strap in for the ride.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Just as absurd as Excellent Adventure, and that's OK!
Absurd, bogus, and nonsensical, but that's what Bill and Ted movies are about.
Entertaining, decently cast, and a fun movie. Don't expect a masterpiece, expect more Bill and Ted.
Coming 2 America (2021)
They Tried
They tried to make it work, they didn't do such a good job. A big cast with an underdeveloped story make for a disappointing movie.
Find something else, this one wasn't worth the watch.
Outside the Wire (2021)
Entertaining, but not great
Was it entertaining to watch? Yes, but it wasn't great.
Was it worthwhile to watch? Yes, but not if something else was pressing.
Neat premise with a subpar delivery, poor sound during gunfights (high pitched and clinky), okay movie overall.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Not finished
With a lot of potential, the movie runs about 2 hours and had the opportunity to be great, however nothing actually happens. An ending and less filler would have made for a success.
