Loos Ornamental (2008)
Engaging feature
Fortunately, this film was shown back-to-back with Schindler's Houses, and both films are clear winners. If you haven't yet heard of Heinz Emigholtz, his features depict the remaining structures of notable architects through the use of sequential exterior and interior shots without voice overs, music and commentary. This is the stuff of everyday life, and its power might very well consist in allowing the viewer to make their own judgments as to the significance of the work under scrutiny. The remaining structures of Adolph Loos take one back to turn-of- the-century Vienna, the era of Klimt, Freud, and Franz Josef.
Frogs (1972)
Lower your expectations...
Judging by some of the previous comments I've read, I think a few of us out there are taking "Frogs" perhaps a little more seriously than we ought.
Actually, this movie is worth your time IF you can appreciate: 1)predicatable, yet decent, performances by most of the main cast, especially Ray Milland(he's a 70's "Capitalist Pig" stock character but oh-so-good at what he's doing here), 2)well-manipulated suspense which "builds" in just the right way, leading to a fairly strong climax, 3)the setting(almost a character in itself in the film, but very distinctive).
Yes, the script is not the greatest, and some of the characters are not quite memorable. So what? Frogs is fun.
