Dirty Grandpa (2016)
Funny movie but predictable story line
This movie without a doubt has really funny moments but the ending is so predictable. The main characters story line is like every other comedy or romantic comedy ending. Guy is about to get married to a girl, the girl is uptight and controlling. He goes on some adventure and meets some "hot free spirited strong independent women". They are just friends but the are so in sync with each other. Guy starts to have feelings for her, feels guilty and is about to tell her that he is about to get married. She finds out some way gets angry tells him "I never want to see you again" right before she is going to go on some long term gig far away. Guy goes back to his life but is unhappy. At the last second he tells the girl that he doesn't love her and leaves. Then goes on some hurry up and wait mission to try and get her back. Right as she is leaving to go one her far far away long term (fill in the blank). Some messed up accident happens they talk all is good and then he leaves everything behind to be with her and they live happily ever after the end. Oh and Miss Perfect has a crazy sex crazed best friend that goes for his friend. This is the exact same story line in almost every movie now and this movie was no different. So very disappointing movies need to start coming up with a different story line cause this one is in EVERY movie. It would be nice to watch a movie and not know what's going to happen about 20 min in.
Hot Girls Wanted (2015)
Good but contradicting
This is a good doc to watch. But with the producer growing up with privilege she didn't portray this very well. She made it out to be that these girls are so deprived and feel stuck that this was their easy outlet to a better life. No, these girls are from middle classed families not deprived. She makes is out to be industry is dangerous and wrong. But, by looking at it in this situation it isn't the case. These girls were there on their own free will. They have a roof over their heads and that scout books their gigs and goes with them to them. That scout does it in such a way that the girls are not forced into anything shady or put them in danger in anyway. If they want to leave or want out he lets them. These girls come to him not vise versa. So I didn't like how they were making it out to be that this industry is a bad situation. The material contradicts the theme of the Documentary. If you want to do a doc about this then use subject that fits your vision. Not the exact opposite.
V luchakh solntsa (2015)
Decent but a very selfish "just get the story" doc (hear me out)
This doc was to show the a girl(who BTW was SO adorable) joining the workers party. But, I feel the directors were playing with fire by how they made the film. We all know and are aware that if something is coming out of the DPRK then it is staged and scripted. This filmmaker went to the extreme and video taped footage showing that and smuggled it out of the country. Yes, it did call them on their BS but at what cost? Who knows what happened to every North Korean involved? Those minders and their families? Those people are probably dead or close to death in some work camp. This is very repetitive and got kind of boring after awhile. Due to super long shots of people just walking and stunned to see a camera and song after song of how amazing their leader is. So this is very much a "get the story no matter what the cost" documentary. I will say though during one of the songs they flash a pic of Kim Jung-Il in the background and for a split second I thought it was a pic of the Grim Reaper a little ironic for this Doc and it's subject matter.
A State of Mind (2004)
Put your bias aside and watch this.
The country of North Korea has always fascinated me (based on their isolation it's like that gov building due to it's secrecy you just want to know what's in there)and so I have watched several docs on North Korea aka DPRK and this one is by far the best. Most docs it is obvious that it is scripted with minders feeding you B.S. throughout the whole documentary. This one scripted or not gives you more of an everyday life in the showcase capital. Most documentaries about this country the showcase capital home to two million people always looked barren. This wasn't the case. I don't know how this director was able to get such up close and personal access? It shows that even though they are worship their leader under a bunch of lies they all seem content and happy cause that is all they know. It is focused on everyday life there as is and not so much about how the leader is this God like figure. It's there but not as prominent. I really wonder what became of these girls and their family. All I could find is the younger girl was in school to become a chef. The other girl I could find nothing on her. So bottom line is put your bias aside and watch this you will want to watch it a few times.
