Angrezi Medium (2020)
What a waste
A pontentially good story and a lot of good actors are totally wasted in this film. Clearly those who have rated it as 10 on 10 are paid reviewers as the movie lacked any head or tail. Everything that was shown was absolutely an impossibility. Was there even a need of the characters portrayed by Dimple Kapadia and Kareen Kapoor? What exactly was the objective of the movie?
Drive (2019)
WT!!!
DO NOT EVEN TRY TO WATCH IT...
I wanted to switch it off after 10 min but carried on till 30 min when I lost it and couldn't continue. Karan Johan (the producer) seems to have totally lost it. Couldn't make a head or tail of what was going on in the movie. What were people at Netflix thinking? The 'Thugs of Hindustan' joke applies to this wherein it seems neither Amitabh Bachchan nor Aamir Khan read the script assuming that if the other has agreed to do the movie then it must be good. Similarly here, it seems that Netflix put too much trust on Karan Johar forgetting that it was Karan Johar who has lately made movies like Kalank, Student of the Year 2, Ae Dil hai Mushkil etc..
Gully Boy (2019)
I can do slums as well - Zoya Akhtar
"I can do slums also", that's the challenge, I think, Zoya Akhtar took after her Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do.
It's clearly a film made for the critics. The slum dwellers do not watch movies in theatres and the theatre goers will find the connect missing.
Story is highly predictable as one could easily guess from the trailer. While the film has its lows, lows, lows and high the emotional impact seems to be missing. You don't laugh, cry, feel good or bad, just watch it.
5 out of the 7 stars I have given are for Ranveer Singh for the sheer hard work and making the character so believable. Alia Bhatt's role has no significance to the story but as usual she does full justice to her character. Just that I pity Murad for eventually having an excessively obsessive wife.
Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)
Fiction ZInda Hai
The whole idea of watching a movie is to get entertained, forgetting one's daily grind and getting immersed in a fairy tale created using light and sound while blissfully munching on a tub of popcorn. Not sure when this changed to some of us wanting to see 'realistic' films... travails of a bar dancer, coping with erectile dysfunction, making toilets or biographies of sportsmen, some of which dramatically overdoing the realism. Hey, we know enough of what goes around. When we walk into a dark cinema hall and wait expectantly for the film to start after getting disgusted looking at the realistic shorts made on cigarettes / chewing tobacco, we are transported to the dream world created by Salman Khan which only he can make and no one else.
Sequence after sequence you get convinced of his invincibility (and stupidity) but all is well that ends well. We are not here to watch the lovers either getting killed or committing suicide at the end. Casting director would have really worked hard to find a spineless villain who would seem like a puppy in front of the Tiger and who just couldn't shoot the hero on at least a dozen chances that he had. The production values, cinematography and background score were superb. It was like a 80s movie embezzled with today's technology. The three actors who deserve mention are Salman, Salman and Salman (Was there anyone else in the moview?). And yes, Salman has taken up single-handedly the responsibility of bringing peace between India and Pakistan (first it was Bajrangi Bhaijaan and now this)... So now you understood the title of this review? Fiction Zinda Hai...
Enjoy it !!!
