Damsel (2024)
It's OK fairytale fantasy.
Honestly, it's OK. There's some clever playing against some fairytale tropes. Ending is rushed, like so many of the type (like the animated Snow White). But it's basically entertaining enough.
Those criticising the strength of the protagonist should rewatch the opening scenes. She's fit, strong and doesn't need supernatural skills or superhuman abilities to accomplish what she does. Just some determination and a bit of luck - and the story does contain enough elements to show that others have faced the dangers before and perhaps been not quite as fit or quite as lucky.
There's some less believable grandstanding, but that's hardly unusual in the genre.
Cover (1981)
Staggeringly good, incredible it was never repeated.
Amazing writing, dripping with tension while looking like it had a budget of about £5 an episode.
If there ever is a digital release, I've no doubt it'll appear ridiculously dated as the sets were almost amateur dramatics society quality.
But the tension, paranoia and overall sense of "wtf is going on??" mean I still remember it 40 years later!
