Napoleon (2023)
Very good film, but could have been great. Definitely worth going.
Things that could have been better:
1. Filming locations not being french at all, there were even (Austrian) eagles visible in the background at some point. The film looked great overall, so that final step of dedication would have really sold it.
2. I love Joaquin Phoenix, and I think his performance was great. However, I think he doesn't have the acting range, looks or age to play Napoleon in all these stages of his life. He looks the same age at the very beginning as he does at the very end, which just doesn't add up for the time period it tries to cover.
His emotional side and insecurities were captured well, i'd say. So overall him playing Napoleon was good enough, but casting could've been better.
3. There are so many huge time jumps and it covers all the huge events. On the other hand, Scott dedicates a lot of time on Napoleon and Josephine's relationship. I believe that aspect of his life is done very, very well and I am glad that she is so significant throughout the movie, as she should be. The pacing of the film however gets really awkward with the drama and the historical time jumps combined in two and a half hours. The contrast makes the movie more tiring to watch than it should have. Maybe a director's cut would solve this issue.
4. Felt like the movie could have been more epic at times. Great battles, especially the battle of Austerlitz.
The French made a complaint that they could've done it better, and I sort of get where they are coming from. The deeply rooted nationalism and pride of the French after the revolution is very difficult to get right. The way they still depict Napoleon to this day as one of the greatest leaders in history, at a similar level as King Louis XIV, is fascinating and that feeling of greatness was lacking throughout movie.
Napoleon could have been better, but it's still a very good movie and worth going.
Threat Level Midnight: The Movie (2011)
Perfect film, flawed filmposter
Why does the Filmposter include the name Toby Flenderson. He doesn't deserve a mention here because he didn't make the movie, he has like a second of screen time and his performance is terrible, mediocre at best. Dislike.
