War (2019)
Action movie thrill ride
This movie is everything an action movie should be. It's the type of film you'll want to see more than once. As a mother, I appreciate the shout out to the moms of the world. Great film. We rarely see action scenes and special effects so well done in Indian films. The story has some moments that are way over the top, but just accept them for what they are in this genre of film. Really brilliant.
Zero (2018)
Stunningly wrong
You can't put a bunch of beautiful stars in a bad story and hope no one notices. While this film is aesthetically pleasing with all of the huge and beautiful stars in it, the story was disjointed and incomplete. Perhaps that was the point, but the intent behind the theme fell flat. Furthermore, it's painfully obvious this should have been Anushka Sharma's story (her character Aafia), not Zero's (SRK). Not sure why they skewed it towards men, but that ruined the film.
Kick (2014)
BPD
It's Salman Khan, so the entertainment value is through the roof. On the other hand, nothing makes sense. It seems like this movie is about a guy who just lives for thrills. The main character seems to have severe BPD.
Yasamayanlar (2018)
Too many loose ends
This series ended with way too many loose ends. Also, Karmen's role was so blatantly obvious from the beginning that I thought it was too obvious. Disappointing. And, c'mon! dmitry was a great complex conflicted character, you kill him off???? I hope if there is a Season 2, they explain why he would go to Mia and allow her to kill him. It really makes no sense. Also, didn't the other vampire who is a protector to everyone but Karmen, *eyeroll, kill himself with the knife that makes him immortal? So why did he die? Anyway, to sit through a whole series and get an ending that doesn't add up is super disappointing.
Dhoom:3 (2013)
FABULOUS!
This movie has everything you could ask for. You won't be sorry you watched it. However, if you're familiar with Bollywood movies as a genre, and you're familiar with magic tricks, you'll figure it out in the first 10 minutes. Having said that, it's still a joy to watch everything unfold.
8 x 10 Tasveer (2009)
Terribly frustrating
I'm an Akshay Kumar fan, and I wanted to like this movie, but I just can't get over the plot holes that are a mile wide. First of all, if you have a kid in a catatonic state because he's so shocked that he thinks he killed his twin, obviously show him that his twin is alive and well. If this doesn't work, and you go with the premise of removing all reminders of the twin, then don't send him away to live with a sadistic brute. If anything, put the catatonic kid away in one corner of that giant mansion you live in. Then, the angry twin returns bent on revenge but also just wants his spot in the family back? Okay...I think. In that case the quickest easiest route is to take out Jai and impersonate him and go ahead and inherit the money his father just left him. Why go on an unnecessary and messy murder spree? By the way, what was the girlfriend for anyway? Moving on, lastly, and the worst part of this film, you killed off the coolest and most interesting character in the whole story! Happi with an I needs a sequel or franchise and please clean up the story next time.
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (2014)
Funny goof
Love the series, the dialogue is priceless with plenty of twists and action. However, there is one goof: there's a few scenes where the brothers are supposed to be in Houston, but you can see the state Capitol and the UT clock tower in the distance. Haha This can be explained away by the fact that they're in a magical labyrinth. On the other hand, it would be from the brothers' memories which still would not include those landmarks in Houston.
Tubelight (2017)
Phenomenal
I can't imagine why this movie wasn't a breakthrough of the year. It's got everything, and it is so well written and directed. We rarely see Salman Khan deliver deeply emotional performances, but this was exquisite. I do have a personal connection to this story as I have 4 sons myself with one on the spectrum, but it's a lovely lovely picture- grab the tissues.
Van Helsing (2016)
Major plot hole
I liked this show. It paralleles TWD quite a bit, but it has some unexpected twists and creative story lines. However, the end of Season 2 really killed it for me. SPOILER ALERT Why would mama Van Helsing lead Scarlet to the crypt of the elder knowing that their blood is the only blood that can open it and knowing that the elder must stay in the prison so that he can never reconnect with the other elders. It would have been smarter for them to leave Dimitri and the Sister and Scab to wander that mountain forever. Who cares if they have the key? They can't open the crypt without Van Helsing blood. Instead she goes directly to the crypt to open it which seems counter productive from saving the world from vampires and their "dark one."
