Traci Townsend (2007)
They drop the ball with this one
This movie started out as a tolerable 2000+ indie romcom, that I thought was a 90s film from the production quality and stereotypical tropes. Its introspective aspect made it promising, but seemed to get muddy and lost as it rushed to reach its unsatisfying conclusions.
I generally like Mary Marrow films like How to be a Player and National Security which is what initially sparked my interest in the movie. I was actually surprised I'd never heard of this movie because there were many familiar faces in it. The majority of them were from other independent films but it good to see them working. What a let down. I was really rooting for this flick because I love and love independent Black films.
Harlem (2021)
Season 2 is hard watch, and I want to like it
I like the cast. The overall production is on point. Let's be honest, the premise-4 friends navigating career, dating, and life in general -isn't original (even down to the raunchy, promiscuous, chunky comic relief). With that being said, there's room for this show without being hacky.
Season 1 was wonky but was seemingly finding its legs. Season 2, however, is moving in the opposite directions with absurd storyline and scripts. The Quinn character's story arc is pandering, insulting, silly, and shark jumping. The Angie character has become more ridiculous and not in a good way. Ty's husband seems a goofy afterthought. Hopefully, they will make the necessary changes because, like I stated earlier, I want to like it and am a fan of the cast.
The Sandman: 24/7 (2022)
Woke Olympics
A decently crafted story revolving around checked boxes and identity politics as a plot device. The series in general treads that line, but usually not this heavily.
Bug (2006)
Yeah. No.
This movie feels like someone read A Scanner Darkly high and didn't make it past Jerry Fabin and the aphids, then said what if he met a girl. Then said, the real question is how can we make it gross... that sounds like screenplay to me.
I get the underline themes are mental illness and loneliness, and can even see this being a "cult" classic but I don't think deserves 6.1 stars.
I Love Trouble (1948)
A fun, light noir
The dialog in this flick makes it an instant classic. There's a lot of twist, turns and femme fatales. If you come across it, it's definitely worth the watch.
Teenage Bounty Hunters (2020)
Waaay better than the trailer suggest
When I saw the trailer I was completely disinterested in watching this show. My girl clicked on it one day, and I sighed. About a half-hour later it was clear this show had promise and potential. The chemistry between the characters is honest and undeniable, especially between the girls themselves and with Bowser. The series also had great character arcs and plot twist.
Idk how true it is but I read somewhere the show is canceled. I hope it's not true because I was looking forward to session two. It would be a shame if it is, considering unmemorable trash like, tbe Ranch, has six seasons. If Netflix did drop it, I hope another network is smart enough to pick it up.
Problem Child (1990)
A great bad movie
This movie is a classic that never gets old. From the acting to the over the top pranks. This flick delivers.
The Twilight Zone (2019)
Season 1 had potential and a few good episode but fell a lil short.
Really hope season 2 has half-hour stories. These hour-long stories seemed unnecessarily long. I haven't seen one that couldn't have been shortened. Still looking forward to this regardless. 🤞🏻
Watchmen (2019)
Interesting take on 35 years after the comic
It's beautifully shot and acted. We're only two episodes in and the story is coming together. I read and loved the comic back in 90's, and so far I'm loving their take WM universe 35+ years post Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach and the giant squid. I can't wait to see where it's going. It's only the 2nd episode, even West World took time to together.
The funny thing is, most of the bad reviews I saw said the same thing race... politics... race... when they should just say they're only interested in seeing triumphs and tragedies of a particular race.
The Twilight Zone: The Wunderkind (2019)
modern day version of, "It's a Good Life" episode
The ending, classic twist Twilight Zone. It's hilarious how hell bent people are on giving bad reviews yet claim to know and love the original serious.
The Twilight Zone: Replay (2019)
Reminiscent of classic Twilight Zone episodes
Twilight Zone has always had numerous stories about social and political topics in EVERY incarnation. One such episode was S4 E4 "He's Alive' starring Dennis Hopper which in your face and far from subtle. All those crying "racist" would prob feel Hopper was the hero of that tale.
To be "outraged" (or rather mockraged) about this episode means you either no nothing about TZ or you have a problem digesting stories where you're not the center/Hero/Protagonist. And that sounds like an issue much deeper than a TZ episode.
I thought this ep was true to TZ form and I would've given it a 10 but I felt the stand off scene jumped the shark and the intro and outro should've been much stronger.
I like the series thus far, and think it's closest to feeling like the original series than all other reboots. I do feel a 1/2 hour format would serve better.
Also wish early media wasn't so lopsided racially bc it makes it so hard for non people of color to see pass the mirror and avoid being butt hurt when they someone beside themselves in the spot light.
PS it's hilarious to see people who say racism doesn't exist when people of color claims it happens in REAL LIFE, so quick to cry racism over a television show. We truly live during a special time.
