Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)
They absolutely butchered the iconic Turkey scene??
Look it's good but at times feels like a cheap hallmark film and I expected more considering it's budget. If you have read the book you will notice key elements missing in the movie.
Main critique of the movie is that it felt so rushed from the minute it starts to the end, key parts of the storyline in the novel missed the mark in the film because of this. Best example is the turkey scene, which may as well have not been included imo. The two main lead actors carried the movie with their chemistry but imo besides the role of Zara and maybe the President, all other characters were washed out and severely lacked their iconic character that you come to love in the book and I have already forgotten them. Whilst there is romantic chemistry between the leading roles the drama at key points in their distanced relationship is missing, I would have also much preferred a higher maturity rating so that more of the language and core relationship sexual development could be more accurately captured. The lacking character components were such a shame to see as I'm such a fan of Casey's story, I think the story in the film needed much more time to develop properly and would have been better as a series for the viewer to capture a better sense of time. Nic and Taylor do the best job I think they could have, especially Taylor capturing Alex's wit and smart mouth without having the film maturity rating that was needed to do it on par with the book.
Overall it's a good watch but be prepared to be disappointed if you are a true fan of the book. Also fyi there is an end credit scene that is easy to miss but don't get excited.
