Lethal Weapon: Dial M for Murtaugh (2019)
Back on track.
I agree with everyone so far this episode was a welcome change. The humor was more natural and we got to see more personality out of Trish other than 'straight laced lawyer mum' all the time. I hope they continue to develop the other characters especially Avery - he seems to to have been reduced to a doormat.
Dark Matter: Stuff to Steal, People to Kill (2016)
The best episode yet.
I'm glad I stuck with the show. It was starting to look a little
sketchy in the early part of the second season.
But I'm quietly confident that the show is back on track now - just not let Bruce McD back on the director's chair from s2e2, he nearly spoiled the whole series for me - it's amazing how much difference a bad director can change the whole feel of the show from heroes-to- zeros.
But I digress... This is about this episode s2e8, oh and it's a goodie. New plot twists, further evidence on how the crew of the Raza are so much better off getting their memories wiped and a just wee hint on how android became "different" - all make for tantalizingly good television for the rest of the season. I'll surely be watching... just don't let the other director (Bruce) anywhere near another episode! :)
Dark Matter: Kill Them All (2016)
This episode was the most tragic..
...tragically acted. It's amazing how a change of director can make decent enough actors look very VERY average. I've followed this series from the very start. It has always been entertaining, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. This particular episode though had me laughing at how bad the acting suddenly seemed to be. I can't put my finger on it, the same cast I've grown to love over the last season delivering cheesy line after cheesy line. The lead female interrogator was particularly awful so I'm glad she got dead quickly. As for what actually happened in the episode, the plot thickens, it's great to get the old crew back together (-1) and out of prison. Looks like they've got 2 new crew members to add to the dysfunctional team. And who knows, maybe now that everyone knows their real names, they'll stop calling each other by number.
Dead of Summer (2016)
Cliché
Based on episode 1. Cheap frights. Uninspiring story telling. Female lead seems to break down at every tiny little thing, which makes you roll your eyes and ask "seriously? She freaked out at that??!". This has the feel of a low budget B movie where even the props of a dead deer look more plastic the Real Housewives of Hollywood. The chemistry between the actors seems like the only genuine thing in this pilot episode. Unfortunately this is yet another inexperienced amateur director trying to learn by ripping off old 80's camp movies. Probably good for millennials who "like oh my gawd" don't have a clue what good television is.
Damien (2016)
Meh
I really wanted to like this show. I'm basing this on the first 3 episodes. The plot seems interesting enough, but execution leaves a lot to be desired. Drama and emotions seem forced to the point where I even think I'm a better actor than some of these characters, and I really can't act to save my life. Not to mention the comical overuse of chanting music in an attempt again to make scenes more dramatic. This would be a perfect case study on how not to edit your soundtrack. Oh and their use of Rotties as hellhounds - uninspired, those pooches look cute and cuddly other than anything sinister. Anyway I gave it a passing grade(only just) because, like i said in the beginning, the plot seems interesting enough... with the hope that the show's identity settles into a decent gritty supernatural drama other than feeling like an experimental mess with a dozen different directors and writers. Too many cooks?
