Blue Ruin (2013)
Don't Believe the Score!!
This movie absolutely sucked!! The acting was good but the script, particularly the dumb talky ending was so bad it made my wife and I angry! It was an attempt to be artsy fartsy that just made the protagonist into a big loser that I wish we had never met. The best part of this movie was seeing the big brother from Home Alone acting again. The protagonist had good friends and family to live for but instead decided to throw his life away when he had no reason to do so! It's not that this movie didn't match our taste, it was just such a dumb ending that it should have never been made. Don't waste your time with this drivel!!
The King's Man (2021)
Terrible!
Holy crap!! This movie is terrible! To be fair, my wife and I only suffered through half of it before we couldn't take any more. They ruined the franchise! Rasputin was so over the top unnecessarily vulgar and disgusting! The fight scene with him dancing was just a huge miss. I won't waste any more of your time... just trust me and don't waste your time with this garbage!!
Cry Macho (2021)
Should have retired on top!!
Okay, I have loved Clint Eastwood my entire life. His acting and directing has always been amazing. From laying on the floor as a kid staying up all night to watch his Spaghetti Westerns to Flags of our Fathers... even Gran Torino, even though I didn't like how it ended was still amazing!
Having said that, Cry Macho was terrible on so many levels! Pointless story, bad acting, and bad directing. This movie just stunk! My wife and I suffered, yes suffered through this piece of garbage ONLY because it was Clint and we were in denial, hoping their would be a pay off... there was not.
Lastly, we were both excited for the kid to get to act next to Clint but his acting and choppy, stereotypical accent, was super bad. Add to this the poorly written script and idiotic characters... the selfish Dad and wanna-be villainess Mother... OMG! They all were terrible!!! NO reason to waste your time with this garbage movie!!!!! It was so bad it makes you mad you wasted an evening watching it!
IMDb on the Scene - Interviews: Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Life Changing
Proves that WB execs know zero about superhero movies. Thanks Zack! Need more like this please!!!!!!!!!! Curren WB execs do not deserve these characters!!
Arkansas (2020)
Terrible piece of garbage
Not quite as bad as the trash that Wes Anderson gets away with but pretty damn close! I was buzzing when I started watching this piece of crap and it killed my buzz. Can't stand that fat kid that plays Swin! This movie sucks!
Mad Dogs (2015)
Don't waste your time!
This is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen on Amazon! It had great reviews so my wife and I gave it a shot. The characters are a bunch of morons to the point that it's just aggravating to all hell. Just find a piece of wire and by-pass the freakin' fuse you idiots! Where were your Father figures you bunch of losers. Just a stupid show with a stupid plot. I DO NOT ever want to hang out with this bunch of guys under any circumstances. BTW - the music is way over-done in this piece of garbage too... watch the first episode with the sex scene juxtaposed with the phone call and the fever pitch music... trying so hard that it wis obvious. Walking through the jungle with no water! Stupid show!!
Joker (2019)
DC Executives Ruin Another Character
Honest review. You have heard what great acting, Phoenix should get an Oscar, etc. Yes, the acting, directing, music, lighting, was all great. The problem is that this movie never should have been made. I collect comics and enjoy comic book movies because they are fantastical, an escape; this movie is neither. There is enough dark crap going on in the world to have to also have this character turned into some screwed in the head, abused, mentally ill, psychopathic murderer. The Joker has always been fun because there was always a bit of mystery about him; the actual Joker is a guy that just gets his kicks out of messing with Batman in every way imaginable. This Joker is not fun, he's a damaged. If you see this movie, don't review it right away, let it simmer for a few days as I have done. For me, when it comes right down to it this movie would have been better off never having been made. Further, those currently at the helm at Warner Brothers have NO IDEA how to handle their properties. They have been handed characters greater than anything Marvel has ever had, or will ever have, and they insist on mismanaging every one of them. I dread The New Gods coming out after sitting through Joker. The amount of money they are bringing in from this movie will make them believe they have finally done something right, they have not. This movie has nothing to it that will last, it has not added anything of quality to the DC Universe, or Batman mythology at that. Go see it, you will probably like it, I liked the production of it, I just wish it was never made and I will never watch it again. It's just not part of any comic book world I ever want to believe in.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
WB Ruins Another Franchise
If you took out every human performance, every line of all dialogue, took away the bad acting by the terrible cast, and left only the monster fights (without cuts to stupid actors faces saying stupid lines) then maybe... just MAYBE this movie would be watchable. I'm keeping this short because one could easily get carried away writing about how bad this movie is. Seriously a waste of time!!
Isn't It Romantic (2019)
Very fun movie!
As I write this it has a 5.9 and I have no idea why. My wife and I bought this on bluray having not heard much about it beforehand. The cast was perfect, and the story was very original. It had some great comedy and musical numbers... just a really fun movie to watch and I'm sure re-watch. Really enjoyed the opening scene when she was a little girl, it really set the stage and was hilarious.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Ripped off DC
Loved the movie!! Amazing ending to this entire phase. Just don't want anyone to forget that this entire franchise is a rip-off of DC Comics... Thanos = Darkseid. Captain America = Superman. Avengers = Justice League. Etc, etc, etc. DC will always be first/best above Marvel. Only difference is that DC execs have lacked any vision since they ripped off Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster so many years ago. Get your act together WB/DC.!!!!
Captain Marvel (2019)
The Death of the MCU!
Wish I could give this zero stars! Totally emotionless! Brie Larson has zero screen presence and the forced feminism is just too much. Marvel movies used to be fun but now with this piece of garbage they are just PC indoctrination. I'm sure Disney will troll all the review sites to make this look better than it is. Can't wait to see the box office numbers! After suffering through this piece of trash I'm 90% less excited about End Game.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
All hype!
Okay, waited to watch this on HBO while traveling... thank God I didn't pay for this piece of garbage. Poorly written, poorly directed, terrible over-dramatic soundtrack... just a terrible effort to make something out of nothing. The CG even sucks, unless you really like cloudy/foggy scenes where you can't make anything out anyway! Heck, it took how many cuts of the original movie to try to make sense of it and it's still not watchable! People that enjoy this movie are just trying too hard to make themselves think that there is something to it. Sooo, in the future we are more connected to synthetic intelligence than each other and replicants (Han Solo) produced the first robot-baby... so what!! By the time you get through the slow dialogue and whiny music you really couldn't care less about any of these characters any more. I guess the big thing here is that we're supposed to wonder at the end if Gosling's character really is the child or not... ooohh, ahhh, ooohh, ahhhh... WHO CARES! This movie is pseudo-intellectual BS!! Don't waste 2 hrs and 44 mins of your life on this!! We are not replicants, don't need to blindlessly follow orders! Run away from this piece of crap movie!!
I Feel Pretty (2018)
You Look Fat
Another Amy Schumer bomb! Don't know how she is even in "show biz"! Avoid this piece of trash... by trash I mean Schumer AND this movie!
Venom (2018)
Great except post credit scene
Loved everything about this until Woody Harrelson showed up in the post credit scene as Carnage. He looked like a crappy version of Bozo the Clown. Harrelson hasn't been relevant since Cheers but I guess he finally weaseled his way into a Superhero movie. I will buy this movie on bluray but will never watch the post credit scene and won't be seeing a sequel unless they re-cast Carnage.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
"Waste" of Time is more like it!
Simply put, this thing was absolutely atrocious. No respect for the source material Oprah still can't act but I'm sure she'll swing an Oscar for this piece of garbage. Poorly directed, incoherent storytelling. Can't believe that that this Director will now be given the reigns of DC's "New Gods!" I am quite sure she will destroy that source material also. Way to go Disney and DC, you both stink! If you want to make bad movies, write new stories to screw up, don't ruin the ones we have all held near and dear for so long. A winkle in time is more like a wast of time!!
Mr. Church (2016)
Loved it!!
Do not want to give away any spoilers here. Just have to say that this movie is absolutely beautiful. Bravo Eddie Murphy and entire cast. Kept my wife and I on the verge of tears for the duration. Just beautiful! Thanks!!
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
From the soundtrack to the plot to the acting, TERRIBLE!!!
You have got to be kidding me... I honestly don't want to waste too much of my day on this review. Waited and bought this on 4K figuring if it was an 8.0 why not own it. This thing was horrendous. The soundtrack it right out of a '70's sci-fi B-movie (think Flash Gordon - the really bad parts of Flash Gordon). Goldblum is still playing Brendle-Fly, Ruffalo's Hulk was just stupid. The dialogue and CGI was like they were pandering to toddlers. The plot was dumb, overall a waste of time. There is no way that fans gave this an 8.0 on their own. I almost took the movie out but was waiting on it to get better... it never did. Will never watch this again, it has no redeeming qualities at all. Will probably either give it away or throw it away... don't even want to look at it on my shelf. Totally ashamed that I bought it. just a string of dumb jokes... what has happened to Marvel!!
Justice League (2017)
So much potential, so disappointing.
Where do I even begin... Superman is literally the World's FIRST superhero and should therefore be treated with a little respect, this movie FAILED miserably at doing even that. From the opening scene which is supposedly filmed from the perspective of kids shooting foootage of Superman on their cel phones, this is a joke. First, for continuity sake when the hell did this happen? The Superman portrayed in the footage certainly wasn't the one that was in Man of Steel or BvS developmental-wise. Second, Henry Cavill looks like a morphed freak. YES, everything you have heard about how bad the mustache removal was is true. I had seen some screen shots on-line and they were so bad I thought they must have been a joke... they were not. If WB reeeeaallly wanted Joss Whedon to revamp this movie THAT bad then they should have at least paid for the effects! So, from the opening scene you are put in the mood that this is gonna be bad. Now, I will say that there were moments that you could tell were Snyder's, and they walked right up to the edge of greatness and then instead of blowing our minds, were ruined by some obvious Whedon BS one- liner which was intended to lighten the tone for us stupid masses. They just destroyed every potential character beat that otherwise would have put a chill down every fan-boy and girl's spine. I contemplated my one star and even slept on it but as much as I wanted to love this movie I just can't. I, in fact have decided to convince myself that this never happened. Let me go on... Super- breath!! Superman freezing Steppenwolf's axe so WW could shatter it with her sword!? That power just doesn't translate to the big screen, it's cheesy and didn't even work in Superman II. How about Superman calling Flash a slow poke or literally picking up an entire apartment building full of people intact! Physically, that isn't even possible... the friggin' building would fall apart, unless of course the construction in cold war Russia was just that awesome that this is possible. Just so much potential but with just so many STUPID Whedon moments sprinkled in to destroy the tone altogether. JW and WB made the entire JL into a laughingstock. This is so sad really. Another issue is the soundtrack... remember how badass it was when we met WW in BvS? Batman is about to get wasted by Doomsday and WW jumps in with the help of an incredible soundtrack and you see and feel that you just witnessed something really cool. This movie lacked any moment like that at all. The musical choices were terrible. I have liked Danny Elfman in the past but this shouldn't have been his movie. The opening Batman sequence on the rooftop left me expecting Michael Keaton to pop out and say "I'm Batman." Remember that moment in the trailer when Alfred says "he said you'd come" and everyone was like "who the heck is it?" Superman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter?? That scene wasn't even in this cut. Lets not forget that the JLA came before the Avengers. Thanos was an admitted rip-off from DC. Jack Kirby's Fourth World was beyond the imaginations of anyone else in the industry. All of these characters deserved so much more. The moments were there, the casting was great, I liked every character and you could see the potential screaming to be let out. WB is just so short-sighted. They failed to have faith in us, the consumers and fans, that we could see Snyder's trilogy to its conclusion. Instead they saw an opportunity with Snyder's personal tragedy and called in the Marvel-boy to turn this in to the Avengers. The problem is that it was intended to be better, to have deeper themes, than anything ever seen over at Marvel. WB lost faith in us the fans and they suck for it. This cut of the movie will never be on my shelf, after this review I'll stop tracking its box office, or any news about it, I just don't give a sh*t anymore. Sorry to ramble on but it hurts to get a glimpse of what could have been great and then see it so clearly taken away. It is easy to tell every scene that Whedon re-shot because Superman's face looks jacked-up, and every scene was disappointing. My guess is that there was going to be some really cool stuff happen when he came back but now you can't even tell what was going to be, it's so diluted. BTW - I don't think Superman's first reaction when coming back would be to rip the JL a new one! Oh man, where are the writers of the death and Life of Superman of the '90's? We needed your talent and respect for the character now more than ever. They treated that story with such respect that I have been collecting ever since. So devastating to see the characters you have devoted so much time and energy into be treated like this. Don't waste your time with this movie. Lets just hope that the greedy execs at WB release the Snyder cut either in theaters or on blu-ray... that is our last hope. I think that the probability is high because if the footage already exists they will surely want to profit from it. Otherwise, great job Joss Whedon for destroying the Superman franchise and taking is backwards 30 years in maturity. Super-freezing breath, picking up entire buildings, telling jokes in the middle of literally everything. Goober-faced Superman. No depth. Wrong music. I give up.
Miss Julie (2014)
Terrible!! Terrible!! Terrible!!
I'm not going to waste a bunch of your time. My wife and I watched this on Netflix and both agree it was ridiculously, over-the-top, terrible. It is as if they wanted to make the worst movie in movie making history and hit a home run. Bravo!! Trust me, no matter how bored you are it's not bad enough to watch this piece of crap. Go outside, go for a walk, throw a ball around with your kid, pop a game in the X Box, lay on a bed of nails, smash your head against a wall until you pass out... do anything except waste two hours of your life on this piece of garbage. Know that you have been warned and I feel like I have done my good deed for the day. Gotta go wash my eyes out with soap now and do what I can to unsee this thing!! Wish there were a zero star option!
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
See it twice!
Okay, I'm an adult and have been collecting Comic Book memorabilia (mainly Superman) but also Captain America, and others for 25 years. I lived in San Diego for many years and attended Comic Con religiously. The Death of Superman was what got me reading and collecting again in the early '90's. I thought MOS was good despite some of the popular criticism.
I took off work two hours early today with the intent of seeing the movie a couple times today and maybe again tomorrow. I promised my friends no spoilers but the first thing I did after seeing it the first time was text and basically say that the movie sucked. I also said a few choice things about WB execs.
Particularly I was irritated at the origin and appearance of Doomsday. Bad enough they screwed him up in the comics over the years, and don't even get me going on how bad he was represented in both the JLU animated series and that terrible DCU Movie! I felt Snyder's version was just rushed and terrible, I won't say more.
I also hated the fact that at the end Superman was "dead." Sure the dirt rose and he'll be back. The issue with this is that if they think people had an issue with an omnipotent MOS running around imagine how they'll feel when he returns from the dead! Seriously, won't people be a bit freaked out?!
So, I walked out the first time really disappointed. Having already committed to sitting through it again I did so. When watching it the second time it was actually much more enjoyable. I'm not sure what it was but it was just better the second time around. Maybe it's just the Superman fan in me wanting a good Supes movie, or the fact that I would really like to see DC movies do well. I'm not sure.
I decided to forgive them for the ridiculous version of Doomsday with the red EMP and tearing his skin off, or that he was somehow Zod and Luthor's love child. I let it go, this wasn't THE Doomsday that I loved seeing thrown into the end of time (how perfect) in Hunter Prey #3, this was just something cooked up for the movie that slightly resembled him. I also forgave the "death."
Some good stuff - this was the best Batman in my opinion. It wasn't Affleck, it was just Batman. I enjoyed the twists I didn't see coming like the Kryptonite coming from the world engine, and that the Senator was a Superman fan and not plotting with Luthor. I enjoyed the scene at the Capitol and didn't see that coming. I loved how Superman found out Batman's identity. The movie was a series of very short special moments all placed one after the other. I think that Gal Gadot was a great WW, even though she could use a little more meat on her lower half - kinda scrawny legs for a "Wonder Woman." Eisenberg was as good as they let him be although I wish Lex could have stayed focused a little more instead of sometimes seeming like a babbling idiot - he should have had moments of clarity where he just come across straight, focused, and evil instead of seeming like his mind was eighteen other places all the time (also messed up that he literally knows everyone's "secret" identity!). I did not think Batman was too violent and I don't think Superman acted too out of character. I enjoyed the interaction between Martha and Batman even though it was sort of cheesy how Batman stopped fighting when Superman mentioned the name. I think the entire cast was superb. Lawrence Fishburn was awesome reading Clark the riot act!
There were deeper moments that can be appreciated and that I feel will be important later, like Batman talking about how he "failed him in life." Pretty much Bruce realizes he had Superman all wrong and I am sure this will play into their future friendship. Evidently Superman had to literally die in order for people to believe he was a good guy.
So after seeing it once I was pretty disappointed but after my second viewing I got over the couple things I thought I had a problem with and see all of the really neat things that the movie has invested in. I'll see it again tomorrow after sleeping on it and am pretty sure it will be even more enjoyable.
As the title of this review says I think it is worth a second viewing if the first one really has you disappointed as I was. Or, read a few other reviews with spoilers so you can get used to all the things that will irritate you and go into it already with them in mind, or don't go at all.
