The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023)
There's a reason it was skipped over in the book...
This movie committed the ultimate sin of entertainment, it was boring. There was no real story, we never learn more about the characters and it adds nothing to the Dracula mythos. Left me wondering if they were even familiar with the story.
It's full of bad science that isn't explained by mythos. The stowaway somehow survives being buried in dirt for days? The blood transfusion is a success despite the odds of being a match. No one thinks to launch an attack during the day rather than at night? There's really only so much you can hide on a ship. It was constrained far too much by the fact, Dracula had to survive. Then the stupidest line suggesting he left Romania because there wasn't anyone left to feed on? We literally see all the people in the first scene. Some good visuals and I did enjoy the special effects despite the constant poor lighting.
Ash vs Evil Dead (2015)
Bruce Campbell is back, baby!
This series is fantastic and a must watch for the fans of Bruce Campbell!
It brings back the spirit of the original films with extra added camp. For those who love comedy with their horror. Let us not forget the terror of the bookcase in Evil Dead 1. I'm hooked. To add to that, is the fantastic representation in this series, not just a bunch of white folks screaming. Pablo, Kelly and the confounded Amanda. I love the deadites, just as comical while scary as the original. People seem to forget how campy it was. The remake lost what made the original so awesome ( Bruce Campbell :P). People who want straight horror should look elsewhere.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011)
As edgy as a Carebears episode without the charm.
Anyone who thought this movie is worth more than 3/10 stars should be shot.
A boring and tedious story that is only made watchable by it's sheer cliché ridden stupidity.
Shame on the actors involved, they are so much better than this.
I was seriously disturbed by how this film made it into production.
The characters are one-dimensional and flat, the story is barely passable.
It the middle I gave up pretending to take it seriously, and began predicting it perfectly blow by blow.
It is over-romanticized in every way, and some scenes reached a unbelievable level of ridiculousness.
It's fish in the Yemen river, not exactly world changing stuff.
Dexter (2006)
Better than the Book
Having just read the novel and expecting to prefer it, I was shocked to Discovered that I greatly prefer the show in every respect. It has done What shows/movies should do when they are based on a book, improve and Expand taking only the good bits. I like the TV interpretation of the Dark passenger as being Dexter, rather than a different entity . The book rushes the story too much! I did however prefer Deb in the book but I didn't like her catching on, it was written so obviously and unconvincingly. This show is so rich everything is done perfectly from the music to the visual design to the acting. I was instantly hooked in by this show so that time became irrelevant.
The Worst Week of My Life (2004)
British comedy at it's worse
This is by far the worst British comedy ever, how it made it past the first episode let alone the pilot is beyond me. The acting is weak from the main character played by Ben Miller to Sarah Alexander (from the fantastic coupling)right through the cast. The plot/story lines were unfunny and very very predictable using many worn out ideas. A very painful series to endure but sadly put in a slot between two excellent shows. describing it as Britain's answer to ' Meet the parents' does a disservice to 'meet the parents' and is as about as fresh as an old shoe that has a run around with the family dog. Britain should have learned that rip offs from other countries never work from looking at America's sad attempts at doing so.
Queen of the Damned (2002)
fans of the books i advise you not to even go near this movie
This movie has the promise of a great film and a fantastic soundtrack which in truth is the only good thing to come out of this film, but thats about it.the acting was reasonable expect for Maurius, the acting was as dead as the character.nothing in this movie stays true to the books from to the color of Lestats hair and ever onwards, I don't care if Stuart doesn't look good with blonde hair, he is not Lestat unless he's blonde it is a strong part of the character.Nothing makes any sense in this movie for example five characters appearing without any explanation of who they are, even avid fans of the novels like me could only speculate. the idea that sunlight would be ineffective after drinking Akasha's blood was ridiculous and over the top stupid.
I have heard from a friend that in the extras the director has given his excuses for these faults but that doesn't make up for the stupid film, if you can't make it right don't make it at all.interview with a vampire managed to interpret the novel brilliantly.
House of Wax (2005)
watch it just to see Paris die
the acting in this movie has the quality of a year 8 drama class, the surprises of a power rangers show ( every moment is predictable)and the depth of a puddle.the character are unlikeable idiots , there is a obvious attraction between (the actors not the characters) the supposed twins which ruins the idea of them being brother and sister completely. Paris takes the cake with the worst acting as she lets her breast do it for her, preturding in every scene shes in with that laughter too " he......he......he".there only two reasons to see this flick; one is the obvious see Paris die ( though i think a pole through the head really wouldn't have affected her as she does not have a brain to destroy in the first place but any way)and second is the haunting beauty of the final scene in which the house of wax melts.
