Once Upon a Time in Bihar (2015)
OUATIB is a great movie, a must watch !!
The film is a thriller based on a certain period of political chaos in the Indian state of Bihar. It's a smooth narrative story of three youngsters with pressing financial commitments but scarce opportunities. The only thriving industry of the region back then was kidnapping. They resort to do the same. Their kidnap as per plan but things goes totally awry. The first half introduces the backdrop of the area ravaged by socio-political chaos along with preparing the plot for the second half. The second half turns into a crime thriller. The film is made on a low budget. That is visible. But on all creative and technical aspects, the film is up to the mark. Screenplay and dialogues are effective. Cinematography is very realistic and captures the essence and chaos of rural Bihar. Editing is crisp and the narrative is non-linear. The film ends from where the film had started. Music is very earthy and cinematic. All the actors have performed very well and realistically. Kranti, Deepak and Ajay are very effective. Senior actor Pankaj Jha as a small but powerful presence. Veteran Ashish Vidyarthi takes over the focus from the point he opens his mouth in the film. The director seems to be an activist film maker and it shows. The film will appeal greatly to people from the Gangetic plains, the Hindi speaking belt. Even otherwise, it is a universal story to be enjoyed by all.
