The Bubble (2022)
1/10
A few gags and an inexcusable rug pull
2 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was actually kind of, somewhat, intermittently funny, although the premise is really not something we needed. We've seen more than enough stupid face masks and nonsensical rules in real life.

However, what really angers me is that, without any warning, the genre shifts to a splatter movie somewhere past the midpoint. You'll know what I mean when you watch it. This is not cool, and completely ruins the comedy vibe.

Silent Eye: The Unlocking Thought (2018)
Season 1, Episode 3

I liked this one

Pretty spot on. The "unlocking thoughts" presented here are realizations that actually make sense and resemble what comes to people in actual spiritual moments of clarity. Also I enjoyed the lack of violence in this story and the little personal twist around the protagonist.

Really enjoyed this one

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, the girl's motivations are fairly absurd and all that, the ending is too violent etc. But the main part of the movie is just gripping. Builds up a major supernatural atmosphere. Also that triangle situation was intriguing. Definitely a great experience to watch.

Atomic Blonde (2017)
This movie will depress you
27 December 2018
I'm not going to give this movie a rating, but I'm gonna tell you what it does. It leaves you empty and depressed.

They forgot the most important rule for a spy-type movie: You have to understand what side people are on and what they are fighting for. Both is pretty much missing here. Everything drowns in a sea of violence, with motivations completely unclear.

The novel Atomic Blonde is based on is called "The coldest city", and yeah, that idea is reflected in the film in multiple ways.

It's shot stylishly, but that only carries a film that far. Not very far in this case.

Cute movie
27 December 2018
Kids only? What? I enjoyed this. Thankfully, they did not go into the direction I expected them to, which would have been robots hurting people.

The wolverine does a decent job here, as do the other actors. Kind of hard to unsee Hugh Jackman as being the wolverine, but by the end of the movie, you do realize he's a different guy here.

Simple movie, but if you're a kid or think like one - go for it.

Well-made
26 December 2018
I think it was well made. Good sound, good visuals, good acting, has the right sci-fi atmosphere and all.

The story is very slow in the first half, then it gets better... and pretty much redeems itself in the end.

Elysium (I) (2013)

Satisfying sci-fi
24 December 2018
I don't get why some other reviewers were disappointed by the story. I found it highly intriguing. A city of heaven floating in space near earth? Sign me up. It looks gorgeous too. Then there is hell on earth for those left behind, seeking a way up there.

Good pacing, great effects, a very likeable hero (played well by Matt Damon, although you might not 100% buy the pain he is enduring throughout the journey).

Just a satisfying movie overall. Violent, sure, and the fights go on a bit too long for my taste. But the world set up here really grips you. They have perfect automated medical care in the future, but not everyone gets it. Of course this leads to fights. The social dichotomy shown in Elysium is really not that far from what we have today: the haves and the have-nots.

Elysium is a movie that just works. 10/10, recommended.

When a TV show is more boring than your own life
31 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
For some odd reason I am still watching this, but it is kind of hard not to laugh at this show. A whole lot of nothing - then suddenly a whole lot of violence - then more of the nothing. Law is generally just not a very interesting subject I guess.

Café Society (2016)
This was bland
13 September 2016
I'm not sure what the point of this is. People are so dull and bland. Bobby, the underdog, pushed around by his arrived uncle, suddenly grows up and becomes a bar owner. However, his manners don't really change much. You're quite surprised how the awkward guy is suddenly in charge of everything.

Then the "marry him or marry him" triangle problem. I just don't care. It all seems random.

Well, it has Jew jokes (the awkwardness and everything). Couldn't stand the mother character though.

Maybe I just don't get Woody Allen. But there was so little actual human flow in this movie.
