Raincoat (2004)
Best Indian Movie to come out in the last three years
This movie doesn't draw the average Bollywood fan in...why? I'll tell you why. This movie lacks crappy acting, crappy songs, with crappy Michael Jackson-esquire choreographed dancing. This movie is one that is on par with Hollywood's best. Honestly, I think it should have been India's nomination for the Oscars (foreign film), but of course, they chose something crappy. A Bollywood movie isn't a Bollywood movie if there's no "love story" thread. But this movie managed to pull off telling one of the best love stories ever in UNDER TWO AND A HALF HOURS (a record for Bollywood), while avoiding the Bollywood cliché. Such a refreshing movie!
Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets (2005)
This one made me write an e-mail to Vivek Agnihotri...
FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS. Can the Bollywood directors please be original? As soon as I saw the boat explode in the first two minutes of the movie, I new it was a direct copy of The Usual Suspects. About an hour into the movie, I fast-forwarded to the end so that I could see if I was right. I stopped when I saw Keyser Soze..., ...I mean Murturza Arzai..., ...I mean Keyser Soze killing his family and then the kidnappers. I don't even think Agnihotri bothered to shoot his own scene there, it looks like he just cut it out of Singer's film and then put in to Chocolate (which would be more aptly named "Steaming, heaping pile of Hindi movie crap that I wouldn't pee on to put out a fire." I wish there were something lower than 1 on this voting jams, because it deserves a -100. I give this movie an F-.
