Tombstone Canyon (1932)
A very good old classic western. Ken Marnard could ride! Tombstone Canyon as a movie location is quite good.
Don't be fooled by armchair critics. This movie was cast with Ken Maynard who could ride with the very best! It might be a little stilted, but look at the date the film was made. Ken Maynard several times used Phantom elements in his films and this one is actually quite good. I got mine on a hundred films from the 1930s collection and this is one of the best. John Wayne's Angel and the Badman was in that collection too. The film is not restored, and a ton of money spent on archival correction. Yet it is good to see what was done then. Ken Maynard and Bob Steele could ride and their acting is pretty good coming out of the Silent film era. Go look a the original Panco Villa films for comparison. That if course was the real deal.
Hickok (2017)
A pretty Decent Bill Hickok Movie
As a cowboy and ranch owner and one who has followed movies for years I would rate this much higher than most critics. It is not based on an award winning novel like
Herman Mellvilles Mobey Dick which in a movie about it In .TheHeart Of The Sea, played Jason by Luke Hemsworth it takes dome historical liberties, actually quite a few. It us well photographed, as plausable as some Hickok movies, and was quite enjoyable. I watched it with a batch of friends who are nit a steeped in western lore and they thought it was excellent. Hunter Fusher is quite good as the young boy, K Lyman as John Wesley Hardin who,in reality killed about as many in gunfights as anyone in the real old west, that role was very good, as to wooden acting, many people actually play the role mostly as themselves and TeacevAdkins plays a good crooked guy, and tough adversary, Bruce Dean makes a god Doctor and Cameron Richardson make a good female lead.
Go see it, suspend your critical nature, it is an enjoyable western!
In the Heart of the Sea (2015)
Whale of a Movie, Extremely Well Done!
This movie is very accurate in a lot of ways. First there was a real Sperm Whale that was very large and had attacked whalers. The Ron Howard film and the entire cast does a very believable account and very admirable view of that time and it simply is a gem in terms of historical perspective, accuracy of depicting whaling, whale oils place in commerce, and indeed man's role in the universe. I myself am a fisheries and water expert and have looked into early commercial fishing and whaling, and think the movie is uncannily perfect in almost every way. Those who rate this film lower are not experts on the whaling industry, or commerce at the time. In the Heart of The Sea should actually be given great applause for authenticity and warmth and depth of it's whale and human condition. Do,see this great movie. The character depiction of Herman Melville and all the other characters is heart warming and genuine.
Black Horse Canyon (1954)
Excellent Western Movie
I love this movie! I have seen many western movies and the only question is how to get a DVD of this movie!!!
The scenery, the theme and lack of violence is actually quite amazing. This is an ideal movie for those who love westerns and horses. And yes, this horse is a great actor and also a wonderful animal. Joel McCrea and everyone in the movie did well. A straight forward and lovely movie. The real ranch setting adds much to the movie. The taming techniques used to "break" this horse are legit and although the well trained horse is not really wild the whole story set well with me. The canyon terrain and water hole attractions and all make this quite authentic to the way a real wild horse would behave and Mari Blanchard and The young man Ti in the movie role do well. Outlaw the movie name of this black horse is simply movie magic. Any horse rancher should want their own copy.
