Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Something about this film is just a bit magic
Tim Burton at his finest in my opinion. The imagination in the inventions and the beautiful heart in the relationship with Edward, his father and adoptive mum just connects with me in a way that not many films can. The complete tragedy that some of us will just never fit in - the world is just too cruel a place. Often those of us who identify with Edward, who love the idea of cutting hair, hedges and ice? to connect with others. This film, is funny, original, imaginative, looks brilliant, is well made, contains social comment and connects with vulnerable people through its kind soul. A recommended film for any misunderstood teen (and those of us who will always feel that way :-)
Clint Eastwood, le franc-tireur (2007)
Too many clips
One of those annoying documentaries where large amounts of air time are filled with clips of the movies being discussed. We've seen the movies already! What we want to see is the interviewee talk about the movie. This could have been half the length.
When Clint Eastwood is talking however, the doc shines and is watchable. He has so much to say that's interesting and personal. Not very much that we don't already know from other sources but the interviewer has some good questions and he lets Eastwood speak.
Should have been so much better though. We could have heard plenty more interesting discussion if it weren't for the constant cutting to more clips, or the director showing ridiculous still picture montages with (quite honestly pretty bad) music playing.
Missed opportunity.
