Road House (2024)
Memes a Remake Make
I so agree with the other reviewer's comments, this is a terrible remake. From poor scripting of scenes which copied almost word for word Swazye, Lynch, Elliot version to the burning buildings. Further, it's clear the movie was darker compared to the lily white version.
The ocean scene had me laughing at the carbon copy of chairs and umbrella in the ocean.
Connor McGregor running around nude, even if it was mostly fake CGI was way over the top. The car crash on the bridge was even more unbelievable.
Furthermore, I continue to not watch most Amazon movies as for the most part they are poorer quality than conventional studio productions.
Who Is Erin Carter? (2023)
Inconsistant edit
There is something off with the characterization and dialog. The editing appears confusing to me. The writer and directors seem to think all can be saved by the F word used in places where a different expletive would have been more appropriate. The jumps from present to flashback is also confusing. This story would have greatly benefited from: Greengrass, Gilroy, or. Liman they likely would have made this production more watchable. As to the female lead Evin Ahmad is just not up to: Noomi Rapace, Jessica Chastain or Emily Blunt, even. I suspect the choices were a function of budget constraints to bad as the concept is pretty good just doesn't suspend disbelief.
FUBAR (2023)
Arnold can't save FUBAR
This is appropriate title for this mess: F... Up Beyond All Repair. This is a NOT funny series, the script is full unbelievable action, the whole is an amalgam of other more interesting moves and movies. While Arnold seems to be playing against type the rest of the crew just don't fit in this way predictable mess. Hopefully it won't make it beyond season one. For instance, the SFX in some a few scenes in both e1 and e2 don't measure up to what one has come to expect from Skydancer productions.
The show writers are not very successful is mixing the comedic with the Action Hero of the previous 40 years. I was expecting more than what was delivered.
Plane (2023)
Only for Butler Fans
Script clearly not written by airline pilots. A complete power failure and flight instrument backups not the least suspension of disbelief. Cell phones working but no one using built-in corpus let alone GPS signals. Heads rolled and .50 cal gun explosively drilling thru cars and trucks. One hero vanishes with money but we don't know where or how. Editing allows rescue crew to parachute in to help rescue survivors. All in all, don't pay attention to any of flaws, editing, and at times silly dialog. Sit back and enjoy spending an afternoon entertained as only Gerald Butler can do with a grimace and a smile.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
A wonderful production
First off, I so wish I could view this wonderful work in a theater on a big screen with surround sound, too. The stop motion animation is a tribute to all the artists who made this production possible. I'll not go into the story line or the ending except to say I was holding back teary eyes. Every boy should enjoy but what does one say to the little boys who grow up without a Father? That's my teary eyed response.
I remain in awe of those creatives who made this movie possible. The music and sound track are a tribute to Alexandre Desplat creative genius at matching the music to the emotional content.
Bros (2022)
Boring rant
I spent almost two hour listening to gay rant about LGBTQ history with little demonstrable affection. This film is really Billy Eichner sounding off at the top of his voice his ideas of gay love. I expected much more than I received. The voice over failed to develop any empathy with Eichner's character. Further, I found Eichner's voice and delivery to be more than a little annoying, he has no modulation it's delivered at what seems like one long yell at straight people's lack of LGBTQ history. And there is mostly no humor unless one is a gay man who knows already the in-jokes. Lesbians do a much better job explaining their feelings and expressing a caring feeling.
This Little Love of Mine (2021)
Dreadful, predictable
Over wrought acting, horrible predictable dialog, island habitat where the characters have no beachwear, music from the Caribbean on an Australian island, banana bread!? It's good thing this movie is Netflix free.
Acceptable Risk (2017)
Suspense and Treachery
A story of twists, turns, and murder in furtherance of corporate greed. One will not figure out the resolution. Dr Hoffman is terrific as the protagonist.
Without Remorse (2021)
Not up to T Sheridan Quality
Very poor selection of actors. For instance, Jodie Turner-Smith is believe even a little, too young to carry the cheerful of ribbons. This an example cinema mediocracy. Glad I didn't have to pay for this 'C' movie.
Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019)
Boring?
Lame, insipid jokes I guess are funny to a certain young <35 group living in N.Y. city. I stopped watching half way through as it felt like I was hitting my head against the wall.
Instinct (2018)
Poor script, pedestrian story line
Having viewed the really good series; The Good Wife, Major Crimes, and The Closer to name a few-you will understand how poorly done this almost a series is.
