Sol Yanim (2020)
Such a beautiful love story!
This is one of the best Turkish dramas I have ever watched. I mainly love it for the romance, but the entire series is very well-constructed. There isn't a weak link in the ensemble cast. Ozge Yagiz and Tolga Mendi have outstanding chemistry and bring the Serra and Selim love story to life very realistically. I've sobbed during some of their scenes because their performances were flawless. Tolga's portrayal of Selim is hands down my favorite - he's such a talented actor! I absolutely loathe Birick, but I give Cemre Baysel a lot of credit for the way she portrays her. Emre Bey is fantastic as Burak as well.
It's a shame that this series was cancelled after just one season because there were so many stories left unfinished and there was potential for so many more new ones. Still, I'm grateful for the 12 episodes because I have enjoyed this series thoroughly and have already rewatched it from start to finish multiple times. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Turkish drama to binge. Sol Yanim will tug at your heartstrings.
When Calls the Heart: In Like a Lion (2022)
Great start to a new season!
It's always a wonderful escape to head back to Hope Valley and Season 9, Episode 1 did not disappoint! All the storylines look intriguing: Lucas & Elizabeth's romance, adorable new Little Jack, Henry reliving the mining collapse, the mayoral race, Rosemary forging ahead with the newspaper, Mei Sou's entrance and involvement with the Pharmacy, Nathan's mustache and what looks like a collision headed his way in the last moments of the episode.
In summary, it's a great start to the season. When Calls the Heart never disappoints in providing laughs, tears and all the feels. I can't wait to see it all unfold!
When Calls the Heart: The Kiss (2021)
It was AMAZING!
The only reason this episode has such a low rating is because the show's 3 season long love triangle was resolved, and some who did not get their way are being vindictive. It's sad that people actually organized a campaign on social media to lower this episode and season's ratings. Too bad it doesn't change the outcome.
I got the ending I wanted, so of course, I loved the episode. Elizabeth finally chose her next great love and their union was beautiful. Lucas was the best and right man for her and the scenes on the bridge and in the library show how much they love each other and how happy they are that they finally have nothing standing between them and can just be together. Lucas has always put Elizabeth first. He has waited patiently for her to sort out her heart and now he gets to spend the rest of his lifetime with her.
It's a beautifully told love story. Even if you were rooting for Nathan, going back and watching now, you'll probably see things you missed when you were shipping for an endgame. All I can say is, I hope people will tune out all the negative nonsense and watch the story for themselves. To those who actually started a campaign to lower this episode (and season's ratings), you should be ashamed of yourselves!
