The Pale Blue Eye (2022)
Was left a bit unimpressed
It really is the strangest thing when a film is stuffed with amazing actors, who is doing an brilliant job, breathtaking scenery, beautiful frames, a promising plot and it just doesn't work.
I suspect it is a mix of the screenplay and the adaption of the novel it is based upon. Maybe that might be the same thing. The story line can be a bit hasty in some parts, and when the writing is molded around this, it feels inauthentic, flat and honestly a little silly in some places.
I was entertained the whole way through though, but not in a profound way. The acting performances made me rate this 6/10 instead of 5/10.
A Storm for Christmas (2022)
A nordic edition of "Love actually"
A heart warming, slow burning and beautiful mini series about what is important in life. We follow quite a couple of different people and storylines throughout a 24 hour period, who is stuck in Oslo airport because of a snowstorm, the 23'th and 24'th of December. All of our characters experience some kind of heartache together with challenges, that leads to insight, growth and redemption. And the stories intertwine perfectly with one another. I love the "low key" nordic atmosphere and humor of it all. It is relatable and authentic. And also the mix of Norwegian, Swedish and Danish characters. Norway is doing so good with these Netflix shows, and I can't wait to see what will come next.
