Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures (2010)
Great show-- very intense.
Great show-- very intense. The series follows three doctors--Fitz, Chen and Ming--as they navigate through both professional and personal drama. The storyline was a bit far-fetched(particularly Ming's pregnancy storyline) but I realize the whole thing was set up for the sake of drama. All three main actors did a good job with their scenes. Fitz was easily the star of the show. It had a different style than most shows-- having flashbacks, with flashbacks within flashbacks-- but somehow it wasn't confusing. Having read the novel, I thought they did a decent job with the adaption of the stories--though I wish Sri was a main character in the series as he is in the book. I didn't like the decision to have him terminally ill. I did, however, like that they kept a lot of the small medical stories from the book.
Canadian shows often mask where they are filmed or set, but this show doesn't do that--which I appreciated. The show is set in Toronto, not New York, Chicago or any other American city. It's a nice change to see a homegrown show not pretending to be something it's not.
