A United Kingdom (2016)
Beautiful Interracial Love story overcomes Racism, Bigotry & Hatred
20 March 2017: I Love and support ALL Interracial Love, marriages, and movies or television shows with men and women in love and Biracial people. But not just mix races of Blacks & Whites, but any man and woman of two different racial backgrounds. So I had to see and support this film, the same as I have with All Interracial movies such as the recent; "Lovings" with actress Ruth Negga. My all time favorite is "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with Sidney Poitier and Kate Hepburn.
One of the things I liked in the beginning of this film is that we see them meet, have a nice time and go dancing and the White people dancing in the background are Not staring at them nor giving them a hard time. I wish all the world would be like that when a man and woman of different races and skin tone meet, date and fall in love. God and Jesus Christ/ Yeshua do NOT see skin color, God only sees the heart and mind. This role hit home for David since his real life wife is also a Caucasian woman and they are truly in love with four kids, just the same as actor Nate Parker and his wife.
Anyhoo, racism soon shows it's ugly head starting when David and Rosamund are walking at night and three White racist bigots and one yell the word "coon". Later we see Ruth standing up to her own father for the man she loves and later when Khama stands up to his racist uncle for his love of a White woman. Although, I understand the point that in his African country, where the tradition has always been all Africans living, loving and marrying and that is to be expected of a future king. So the racism is not quite the same as blatant hate due to skin color, but hate is still hate in all forms and love is love in all forms.
My wonderful Latina daughter-in-law once told me that "love is love and it is beautiful with all men and women." However, I said that love between two people of the same race, skin color, and nationality is easy, but it takes an extra special love and strength to love a person of another race and skin color to stand together in love against hatred in all forms. For those who know, this is what great martial artist actor, Bruce Lee's wife, Linda Lee did when she (a White woman) fell in love with a Chinese man and stood up against her own mother for the love of her life.
I have like the work of English actor, David Oyelowo since his film "Red Tails". He was great as MLK in "Selma". I have not seen much of English actress, Rosamund Pike, but I did see her in a James Bond and Tom Cruise film. This film was great from start to finish. Love and Hate comes in All skin colors and in this film we see it from both sides, which proves my point. It takes a strong person, mentally and emotionally to stand up to racism in all forms from family members to so call friends and co-workers to say to the world, I love this person and it does not matter the skin color.
I give this film two thumbs up for another beautiful Interracial Love story between men and women.
Hidden Figures (2016)
Excellent from Start to End. Great Cast
1 January 2017: Happy New Year: Shana Tovah, Hag Sameh akh.
Two thumbs up, way up high. Academy Oscar winning performances from Taraji, Octavia and Kevin. Great directions by Theo Melfi.
Initially, I was going to wait later to see this movie. I was not aware of this real life story brought to the screen for all to see. The three lead actresses are all great in their roles. I just saw pretty singer turned actress, Janelle Monae in the film "Moonlight" two weeks ago.
But I have been watching pretty and talented Taraji Henson for several years in such films as "I Can Do Bad By Myself", "No Good Deed", "Think Like a Man 1&2", Karate Kid (remake)and several others. Taraji has Always done a great job. I think she is finally in the ranks of her Caucasian/White counterpart actresses, Julia Roberts and the great Meryl Streep. Without a doubt, Taraji deserves an academy award as best actress.
However, I have seen that sometimes after an African American wins the great gold Oscar statue, it still does Not guarantee the black actor/actress will work a lot. That is with the exception of the great Denzel Washington who has won two Oscars and still works as much as he did prior to winning.
Kevin(The Bodyguard)Costner is equally good as the head honcho standing between fairness equality and racism and Jim Parsons, pretty Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman) are good as racist bosses. One of the scenes that I was so happy to see that really touched me when Kevin Costner tore down the "Colored" sign above the door and ripped the label on the coffee pot, as well as when Taraji as Katherine and Octavia as Dorothy made their first progress to show their racist supervisors how smart and intelligent not only African Black Americans are, but also proving that intelligence is genderless as well. I admired Janelle's "Mary" as the cocky standup for herself role, but also knowing that in that time period, such an arrogant mouth would have gotten her in serious trouble with the racist bigoted Caucasian/Whites.
Myself, having been in the active army and active army reserves, I feel the actor, Glen Powell as astronaut John Glenn was cast to young to be have been a full bird army colonel, but this is a Hollywood movie based on a real life story that took place many years ago.
Great movie, let's see more like this to show racist people in this great country and other countries that Africans and African Americans are Not all in gangs, on drugs, in prisons or lazy. A lot are: teachers {my oldest son, Alex}, lawyers, doctors, military generals, political leaders, airplane & helicopter mechanics {my youngest son, Sullas}, talented singers, actors/actresses and sports hall of famers. We need more positive movies about Hispanics/Latinos and Asians such as the great film "Stand and Deliver" starring Edward J. Olmos many years ago and the "Selena" film, starring pretty and talented Jennifer Lopez.
Mazel Tov, ad ha palm haba ah.
I Am... Gabriel (2012)
Not bad, Enjoyable
23 October 2016
In additional to my original comments that I wrote earlier about this film; "I am Gabriel", it is worth watching.
Some of the best Christian movies are made by a film production company named "Pure Flix". Check out a great action drama titled "Courageous" that was out in theaters about three years ago.
However the only thing more I would have like to have seen is a more MultiRacial cast with one or two African Americans, Hispanic Americans and perhaps an Asian American too. After all, there are people in All races that are Christians and believe in God and Jesus Christ / Yeshua too and all races and nationalities should be depicted in every film in this decade.
Shades of Blue (2016)
Good Crooked Police Drama
10 January 2016 I just watched the pilot of episode of "Shades of Blue". I like it, but I am very surprise to see beautiful, sexy and talented movie star, Jennifer Lopez in a television series. There are a few actresses that are naturally sexy, no acting sexy and Jennifer Lopez, Megan Good, Gal Gadot, Gugu M. Raw and Susan Sarandon are a few of them. They can be dressed in an old winter coat from head to toe and they have sex appeal.
Jenny has not been on television since Keenan I.Wayans gave Jenny her big break in his comedy series, "In Living Color" which also made a movie star of Jim Carey. I am also surprise to see talented movie star, Ray Liotta on a t.v series, but I guess working on t.v is better than not working, if movie roles are not coming in.
This series has the potential to become a long running series and I hope that it last past the first season. The acting from Ray is great, Jenny is not bad in her role either. I was not to impress with the rookie detective, Dayo. I liked the FBI agent who forces Jenny's character to become an in house snitch on her own team.
This show is like real life on some police forces. It gives good honest police a bad name. My life long friend, Dwaine C that I grew up with in Denver has been a deputy police now over 20 years. He is a good honest cop who does things by the law and he is a Christian, so he is convicted to do what is right by God's law and the man's law.
Anyhoo, I did find it hard to believe that a veteran would shoot her rookie partner, regardless of using a vest or not and then play it off like it's not a big deal, all in a day's work. I don't think so. Ray's dirty cop catching a bad guy and taking him to gang members to either kill him or turn the guy into a FUBAR. To high of a risk of him being caught by someone turning on Ray's character.
Next up, a good mother or father with good kids will do almost anything to help their kids and that is what Jenny's character does by putting her own life at risk by ramming her daughter's car three times into a brick blockade to cover up a lie she told to her boss, Ray's character. Well one lie leads to the next lie and it's all down hill from there, telling so many lies, it's hard to keep track or know when the truth is being told.
This is one of the things I admire about my daughter, Gaby Giselle, who is such a strong Christian and believer in God and Jesus Christ/Yeshua that she will Not lie, not even to save her own mother or father because she is concerned what God thinks and not what people think. However, that is Not the case in this show or most people in real life. Most people will tell a little white lie to save a close friend and for sure a good family member.
A whole team of dirty cops, no there is always one or two on the team who want to and will do the right thing without being forced. There is always someone with integrity who will shine a light in a dark place.
Overall, not a bad show, I will continue to watch it to see how long it last. I give it an 8 on the scale of 1~10.
Peace After Marriage (2013)
Arabs & Jews : True Love Conquers and Overcome Racism
9 January 2016: I found this movie by accident on the I-net and I am glad that I did. I am not Jewish, but I speak basic Hebrew and I am pro Israel. However, I truly wish and pray for the peace of God to fall on the hearts of the Jewish and Palestine Arab people there. From the Holy Bible, Arabs and Jews are both cousins. Abraham had two sons, Ishmael, by Hagar, the Arab Egyptian woman and the later a son Isaac by his wife, Sarah, a Jewish woman.
Anyhoo, this movie was very funny and well acted from start to finish. I would like to see more movies that promote love and peace between Arabs and Jews to stamp out hate, racism and bigotry, which is what this movie does by the end of the movie.
Great cast of Israeli and Arab actors/actresses such as Hiam Abbass who is in the movie "Exodus, False Gods and Kings" played a Jewish mother to Moses and in this movie, she is playing her real nationality, a Palestine Arab. She is good. Israeli actress, Einat Tubi is pretty and talented. The one plus would have been to have one of Israel's most beautiful women, Ilanit Levi, former Miss Israel in this movie.
Arab actor/writer, Ghazi Albuliwi wrote a very funny script and does a good job as a guy looking to marry an American girl to stay in America legally. I was happy that they fell in love, she became pregnant and true loves overcomes hate, racism and bigotry. One of the funniest and endearing lines in the movie is when friend of lead actress, Einat's Miki character tells pregnant Miki, "you got a little Jew Arab inside of you". I wonder how well the cast of Jews and Arabs got alone or were able to put aside their disdain for each other and make a good comedy movie. I give it a 9 on the movie scale.
Trainwreck (2015)
Not worth Half Price Admission - Wait for Red Box rental
Saturday, 18 July 2015
I went to see the comedy movie "Train wreck" for two reasons. 1. I thought that I would be LMAO and 2. NBA star, Lebron "King" James. Although, Lebron is not playing for my Miami Heat team anymore, I still like him as a person and ball player. Lebron, playing himself is one of the best parts in the movie.
From the start, the movie was so-so funny. Most of the people with me in the audience was laughing a bit now and then, but not a lot. For me the funniest scene in the movie was when wrestler, John Cena was in bed on top of Amy Schumer and she was telling him to talk sexy.
Also just like Melissa McCarthy's Spy, this movie had way to much cursing/profanity. A little profanity is okay, but this was like listening to a porno movie with such dialogue as Amy talking to her sister, Kim about a photo of their mother when she was younger and holding one of them in a white dress. "Oh mom was Fu---ble then and mom's tits was so nice and much better than mine. Mine's just sort of -----"..
Why does every R rated comedy now days have to have so much harsh crude profanity to be funny. Wake the hell up, Hollywood production companies, a movie is NOT going to be any funnier just because it has a lot of cursing it in. Blart Mall Cop-2 was so funny and had no profanity or very little.
I decided Not to see the rest of this foul mouth truck driver type of movie. The theater manager gave me a refund pass to return to see another movie.
She's Funny That Way (2014)
Funny, Enjoyable and Jennifer Aniston is A +
Sunday, 14 June 2015: I was not planning on seeing this movie, but I am glad that I did. It is so much better and funnier than "Spy" which I saw last week with tons of unnecessary profanity in nearly every minute in almost every scene. Spy was horrible. I gave it a 4. The best thing about "Spy" is cute actress Rose Byrne and beautiful actress, Morena Baccarin. But with Rose cursing and the rest of the cast, it was a total turn off.
This movie is well worth the time and money, plus actress Jennifer Aniston is always good in any movie and she always pretty and sexy too. This movie and Paul Blart Mall Cop2 proves that a movie can be funny without a lot of cursing . This movie has a little bit of profanity, but it is not over done.
The whole entire cast was great. I enjoyed all the scenes with Owen Wilson with Imogen Poots and Kathy Hahn. The older actors were also funny, the one playing the private detective and the one who played a married judge in search of a hooker.
Jennifer Aniston's character would be hard for any man to live with on a full time bases because she is to harsh and sarcastic to the people around her from the way she talks to her clients to strangers on the street in yelling for someone to answer their cell phone, when it is actually her cell phone ringing. Any man would be a doormat that her character would step on seven days a week. But still she is pretty to look at and sexy as she has always been even in her nights on "Friends".
Spy (2015)
Funny at times, but to much Profanity
Saturday, 6 June 2015: My wife and I went to see Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham's new action comedy movie, "Spy". The movie was funny, but way to much unnecessary hard core profanity. This movie could have been just as funny without all the bad language. Cute Rose Byrne, action star, Jason Statham and very pretty Morena Baccarin all made a good cast, but the cursing every minute brought my rating of the movie way down. Lots of crude profanity does Not make a movie funny.
A few weeks ago, my wife and I saw Kevin James in "Paul Blart, Mall Cop-2 and it was more funnier than "Spy" and without all the crude absurd unnecessary hard core profanity, which proves that a movie can be funny without a lot of cursing. I have always liked Kevin since his t.v show and his movies "Hitch" and "Here comes the Boom" which he was very funny in both. The cursing was so much over done at one point I had thought of walking out and asking for a refund or to see another movie. Melissa is good as a comedy actress, but she needs to tone the profanity way down.
