'Irreversible' envy
31 July 2022
Tough to watch, but it kept the tension until the end. It reminded me of that saying that there are good people and bad people but for good people to do evil things you need religion...

Weak men create bad times...
29 December 2021
I wanted to root for this guy. But his life pretty much sums up the current situation of the world. Still, a good entertaining movie. I was reading somewhere that stupid people are even worse than evil people. At least the evil people you can see them coming but stupid people hurt themselves and other people and they don't even do it on purpose. All of the characters in this movies are victims. Really sad but true.

One of the great ones of Nicolas Cage
24 July 2021
You never know what you are going to get with Nicolas Cage. Either complete genius or complete garbage. I was pre-cringing at another Nic-Mess but to my surprise this was a great movie.

What a novel way to tell a story!
23 May 2021
It's something similar to 'the girl with all the talents'. Except that in this case it wasn't zombies. The scenery is peaceful and clean but you get the feeling that something is off. You don't know what but there is a sense of dread throughout. Anyway, it got me interested. Really fun movie to watch!

For those who like torture porn
6 May 2021
I know that some people have these compulsions and I get it. But just so you know the violence in prison is nothing like it's depicted in here. It's terrible and brutal but not as fortuitous and casual like here. There is some kind of reason to the madness. This is just cruelty for cruelty's sake.

Great movie. Very re-watchable.

This is usually my metric to decide if a movie is good or not. Sorry, not a movie critic but usually if I'm tempted to watch the movie again that is a sign to me that the movie is good. And it's funny! There are some heavy subjects being discussed here as well, but with a healthy dose of comedy sprinkled throughout. And that's the thing for me, no matter the subject there is always the chance to make fun of yourself and reflect.

Excellent continuation from T2
3 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I read somewhere that one of the early drafts had Marcus taking the place of John Connor thus becoming the leader of the resistance. The irony would have been so perfect! But alas, the ending spoiled what could have been an otherwise excellent movie.

This is a good movie, Not great. Not bad either
30 January 2021
I struggled to understand why I like this movie so much. The places in Norway are breathtaking. The actors are ok. The writing is fine. The practical effects are well done. Then why I like it so much? So far all I got is its simplicity. It's very simple and straight forward and sometimes that could be interpreted by some people as bad.

Too many things!
31 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has too many things in it: Immigration, Siblings relationships, race, gays, first times, different age couples and the collage is too much to handle in a single movie in my opinion. However, there is some great writing that has to be recognized. "We didn't cross the border the border crossed us..." and "George knows who I am..." and for those things I'm giving it a seven. But the conflagration of all this things into a single movie is a problem for me. But if they give you one shot I would have done the same... still a great movie but be prepared to edit it in your brain...

Too nice, too predictable, meh
26 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't like this happy ending movies where everybody learns a valuable lesson. I'm giving it 5 points for the lost art of written letters which is a main part of this movie. Ever since 'Pride and Prejudice' I've admired when characters express themselves on the written form. Not like in this review, but better. It's always nice to see when it's well done.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry but I didn't buy the whole 'I'm going to blow up a bar to deal with my bully'. Even if you take a Dawson college as an example the guy didn't blow up the whole college.

A father/son story
20 October 2020
Yes, it is the end of the world, yes the car of the protagonist is stolen but what it is not being said is that a father/son story. It's difficult to arrive at this conclusion because the brother kind of fills the role of the father in this scenario. However, 70% of the movie is about this man looking for his car that has to shepherd this other guy (not his son but use your imagination) and in the meantime be his father for a while. It is in the end the brutish world of the apocalypse but I like to think people will show compassion and empathy and that's not that bad!

Very powerful
11 October 2020
I don't know why this film had 5.5 on imdb. For its technical merits and acting alone it should be at least a 7. But ok, we have to hate Russia? Also, they toast to peace... I don't know if its a common thing in Russia but hey! Wouldn't it be nice?

I don't know... don't make a film about Stephen King and Gay movie at the same time. The gay part is excellent. But the gory part seem foreign...

Nothing above the Birdcage
3 October 2020
Nice try but no. The representation of gay guys as flamboyant birds is kind of old and has been done better elsewhere. I like the "12 angry men" kind of confined atmosphere, though...

It reminded me of upstream color
14 September 2020
Upstream much more scientific and cerebral while this movie on the other hand much more real. A really good movie nonetheless. It's impressive to see a kind of violence way deadlier than the bloodiest... anyway well done!

There is something about some pineapples
13 September 2020
I loved the film. But there was the question in my mind about what the 'pineapples' meant. And then at the end I figured that we (the audience) are not supposed to know exactly what that's about. It's something for Eugenio and Martin to understand. At the end you'll know too. But that's great to have a message that only two of the characters will understand and us only tangentially. Excellent stuff!

Everyone's experience
19 November 2019
This is just hitting me that everybody's experience is different in their path of life... It's not something to get upset about that but usually two characters are at different points in their life and that's what makes this movie (and others) work. It's very rare that two people are going to be on the same place (both geographically and life wise). Anyway, I think this movie was great!

This film is about guilt
9 July 2019
I don't know why I like these types of films but I do. Three characters punishing themselves for different reasons and always feeling like they have some sin to pay for. The acting, the script and Ireland itself that are shown here are all excellent. And it's tough to know how to make amends other than keep punishing yourself forever. I wish the movie ended differently but the way it ended it's not bad either. Thanks for the actors for dialing down the irish a little bit so the rest of us can understand a little more. Anyway, great movie, don't know why it's only 6.5 now...

the preview explain the movie pretty well
11 June 2019
There is no big twist in the movie. However it's a really good take on the question of what it would be if superman turned to the dark side. I don't think a super being would turn evil like that but it's a good take on the question...
