Resident Evil (2022)
Dreadful
I always give a series three episodes to give them a chance. This however I couldn't finish the first one episode on this.
The acting is dreadful and even the fantastic Lance Reddick (rest in peace) cannot save this show.
I get that I am not in the teenage target audience but I was a fan of the films and the game on the Dreamcast so I was looking forward to this.
Again it might be my age but the main character is completely unlikeable so you have no one to root for which defeats the object of the show.
I should have learnt my lesson that 90% of Netflix shows are terrible but this is bad even by their standards.
Such a shame as the Resident Evil universe has fantastic potential for a series and I am surprised it's never been done before. Shame all they could come up with was this abomination.
Avoid at all costs and I am not surprised to read that this was cancelled.
The Story of Film: A New Generation (2021)
Interesting but a hard watch.
This is an interesting documentary about modern film from around the world.
There are a lot of films mentioned here that I had not heard of and are now added to my list on IMDb, so it was worth watching just to find some films you may not have discovered otherwise.
However due to the narrator having the most monotone voice I have heard I had to watch this in three parts, I'm sure he knows his stuff but he sounds very uninterested in his on own project which makes it hard to concentrate.
Perhaps this would have been better as a three part series rather then a 165 minute documentary to make it more digestible?
The Exorcist (2016)
Fantastic - Why cancel it?!
I have just watched series 1 and 2 of this fantastic show in the last week and what a show it is. I have now discovered that it's been cancelled! I'm gutted.
The story and the acting were first class along with the makeup/special effects. The first series was well linked to the film of the same name from the 1970's but has enough to also stand on its own two feet.
The second series gave us more background on the characters and what makes them tick along with a continuing storyline from the first series.
It feels like this series had found it's feet and was set up beautifully for series 3 only for Fox to cancel it. I'm unsure of the reason for this cancellation? Cost? Low viewers? This is is such a shame as it's the best thing I've watched in a long time.
I hope they bring this back but won't hold my breath.
Even though this has been cancelled it's still worth a watch to see what a great show looks like and I will be watching it again soon.
The Witchfinder (2022)
Dreadful
I was very much looking forward to watching this show as I am a big fan of the three main actors. Daisy is a genius for her work in This Country for example.
Sadly this show is terrible and completely unfunny which apart from the aforementioned This Country and People Just Do Nothing sums up the BBC comedy department for the last 20 years. I cannot believe we have to pay a licence fee for the BBC to splurge on this and 99% of its other programming.
Avoid at all costs.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019)
2 stars and I'm a big Smith fan.
I've been a huge fan of Kevin's since I first saw Clerks in the mid 1990's.
Clerks is genius. Mallrats is fantastic for the time. Dogma and Chasing Amy are superb and his best work in my opinion. I even liked Tusk which got terrible reviews.
Reboot however is just dreadful even for the hardcore fans. There is about 5 minutes which I did enjoy where they have the characters from Chasing Amy and the Matt Damon scene.
I understand Kevin's sole purpose is to promote his daughter these days but he would be better doing that in a 'Red State' type film in my opinion (which was great). This would actually show her acting skills or lack of.
Sadly this is the last of his films I'll go out of my way to see and just rewatch his earlier work. A huge disappointment.
Step Into the Ring (2020)
Fantastic show about people and Wrestling
First off I am a huge wrestling fan and have been for about 30 years but even if I wasn't I would still give this show 10 out of 10.
This is a show about Zak Knight and the students of his wrestling school in Norwich, UK. Most people will know Zak from his sister Paige in WWE and the film Fighting with my Family.
I have met Zak a couple of times at UK shows and he is such a nice guy and this really shows in this series.
He helps all his students achieve their dreams of being wrestlers. The students all have their own issues and demons that Zak helps them with and the wrestling helps them all. It shows that they all help each other and their love of wrestling brings them all together.
I was close to tears watching this at times.
Zak deserves to be on the New Years honours list for his work in the local community.
10 out of 10.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
Dreadful
This is a sad story of the death of a young lady a few years ago in LA. I am interested in the facts from the police, witnesses etc to find out what happened. Sadly there isn't too much of this in the series.
Maybe I'm too old but I really have no interest in what youtubers have to say about this.
As someone else mentioned, the YouTube people are given more TV time than the police and they offer zero facts or evidence at all about the death of the poor girl. I'm sure they are pleased with their five minutes of fame however.
Shame on Netflix for this abomination.
RIP Elisa.
The House on Mansfield Street (2018)
7 Stars considering the budget.
There are a few bad reviews on here and they have prompted me to do my first review on IMDb as they bug me a little.
In the 'film budget' on IMDb it says this was made for £300 (just over $400). That's nothing and for the cost of the film I think this is worth 7 stars for the film work, effects and story.
Nice U.K. 'found footage' film with a good and different story and well worth a watch if you are in to this style.
I would be interested to see what the writer/main actor could do with a bigger budget.
