Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007)
Magnifique! Bean's Holiday Is Gr8!
Rite well this film i thought was BRILLIANT, and the 100/150 odd ppl who were in the cinema whilst i was there (it was a late screening) all found it incredibly hilarious.
Im sure uv seen the trailers of the film but there r so many more fun bits that the trailers haven't even shown and it really is classic Bean...only Mr Bean could get up to what happens in the film.
The plot i thinks brilliant, Bean wins a raffle ticket to go to Cannes for a beach holiday and gets a Video Camrea to go with him, nothing is simple in this film and even the bits that you'd think are not funny had me pissing myself 'n i haven't got a weak bladder.
Very funny film and a gr8 way to end one of the weirdest characters to ever appear in British TV. You either like Mr Bean or hate him and iv always been a fan of his.
The first film i thought was hilarious with Bean travelling to LA for an art gallery BUT id say this film is better than that one, in the first film there was probably abit too much dialogue but in this one there's some gr8 examples of silence that hav been wonderfully directed to make a gr8 film.
This film was defiantly more like the TV series and yes there'll be ppl saying "But is the same slapstick humour" but you're not gunna change something that worked so well. It was well worth my £6 getting in for..
Cant wait till its out on DVD, the extras and making of should be brilliant. All in all a great movie.
Bean is no Has-Bean!
The Nutty Professor (1996)
Yes I Can, Yes I Can - watch it again!
This is one of my fave films of all time. Undoubtly one of Eddie Murphy's best films. The film starts with a Huge, Fat Obese but kind and intelligent Man - Sherman Klump falling for the pretty Carla Purty (Jada-Pinkett Smith).
He thinks that with him being fat, and after his failure with exercising, that the only way to win Ms Purty's heart is to lose weight quickly, he tries out his 'special formula' and becomes Buddy Love.
Or in fact becomes Eddie Murphy, as this is the only character he plays without make-up and body suit.
The film is very very funny, and my fave. scene is the dinner scene where Sherman has borough home a girl for the first time, and his family are very embarrassing, and take no consideration that he's abit shy. His father Cletus, Ernie and Grannie Klump are all very open and explicit, literally. They speak very openly about 'realtions' 'colon cleaning' and to say the least turn the table into a bio-chemical mess with infrequent gas attacks.
The way Murphy morphs himself into these 6 characters (inc. mama klump) is quite staggering and(unlike the second film which was funny but could have been better) the film has good flow and the story is funny.
I first saw this film when i was 8, and can remember how much my sides hurt from laughing, even now though i've seen it countless occasions (it's always on ITV2.....LOL) i still am in hysterics.
I highly recommend this film!
Stargate (1994)
Galactical Brilliance
The first time i saw this film - i was about 8 - and i could only remember that Kurt Russel - One of my mum's faves - was in it, and that there was a very ugly, hairy and disgusting camel-like creature in it, more on him/her later.
So when we received our first DVD player, and received a version of 'Stargate' free, this was the chance to watch it again..
The great things about this film, unlike most out of space films - is that they didn't go and do a over the top budget film battling alien snakes and other weird creatures, the special effects were quite good and the use of the theme music was good to.
Other than the fact of being original and interesting, the audience shouldn't get bored watching this and the film doesn't drag on like some galactical films do.
I'm not going to spoil the film much, but the one scene that i loved the first time i saw it is in the first part of the film when the military guys and Daniel's spader's character arrive from the star-gate, and Spaders character sees some huge steps in the sand around him and follows them to find this huge camel-like thing which looks as if it hasn't had a wash in ages - although this isn't surprising as it the middle of the desert - and after befriending the camel by giving it a piece of chocolate, when Kurt Russel' character approaches, the Camel gets scared and Spader gets caught up in its harness and is pulled harshly and briskly away and we see this camel thing, running away with spader hauled along the desert floor screaming....lol How he wasn't treated for burns and cuts afterwards by the civilised tribe next is beyond belief.
And when it cant get any worse for Spader, he wakes up and finds this camel thing licking him....you have to see the scene, it makes you sick! Overall Stargate is a very good underrated film, and for anyone who hasn't seen it - See It! or the CAMEL will come for U!
Sky Sports Cricket (1990)
HOW-IS-IT? it's a wonderful crafted delivery straight to your TV!
When Skysports first got rights to international cricket way back in 1990, questions were asked, what will sky have to offer, will it be any good, and will it be as good as BBC test match special.
The answers are hit for 6 on every one. Sky sports coverage of cricket has revolutionized the sport, and fans such as myself are now able to see virtually any international game live or on highlights on the day.
Sky Sports have done very well for themselves here. They have a great-line up of commentators such as past-england captains - Bob Willis, David Gower, (recent recruit) Nasser Hussain and the legendary Ian 'beefy' Botham; they also have David Lloyed and Michael Holding on their books too. They also have studio-guests such as Sanjay Mandraker,Athar Ali Khan, Mark Ramprakash, Robert Croft and Darren Gough serving on certain games.
Sky also have brought in reveloutional gadgets such as stump-cam, different camera-angles and up2the date statics on the game.
My favourite match broadcast by Sky Sports would have to be the 5th Ashes test 2003 at the SCG, it was a match in which england won to save the Aussies from getting a whitewash and its matches like that owe good credit for sky's broadcasting.
In the last 2years Sky have received rights for the Twenty20 cup in which it's hammer and tong for 2 innings. David Lloyd is always on the lookout for the jacuzzi girls, as a result the rest of the team are on the lookout for Lloyd!
Well Done Sky Sports Cricket, a gr8 ongoing effort!
Everybody Loves Raymond (1996)
What a Show!
This show is without doubt one of the best sitcoms to come out of America in recent years.
This show is about a guy called Raymond who is in his mid-40's, and is a sports-writer. He has a nice wife, 3 nice kids - who are blonde, perhaps the casting didn't go to plan - and then it all goes downhill.
Ray has obnoxious parents, and it doesn't stop there......they live over the street! Ray is a bit of a mummy's boy, and his mum (marie) is always going out of her way to care for him, and constantly berates Debra (rays wife) over being a bad mother, a bad cook, a bad cleaner, etc.
Rays dad (frank) is slightly grose, and likes to unzip his flies before he sits down....he is sick, and is always in a bad mood when marie wants to speak to him. The way frank and marie link up in the show is one of the highlights of the show, and it can't be missed.
In many ways, ray and his wife debra are very much a clone of frank and marie, although not as obscene, rude and arrogant.
Then there is Robert, rays slightly jealous and cluless brother, in many ways he is like me, not a mummy's boy, but gets confused over petty things.
The show is very original, and is based on ray romanos' actual life, which explains how the plots and scenarios are thought of.
In many ways the reason why ELR works is because it actual style is very much like British Humour, and that's why it stands out as a success. It offers something different! So based on the show and its viewing figures which have been substainitally high in recent years, Everybody Definitely Loves Raymond!
Bruce's Price Is Right (1995)
The Price is a Bargain, and that's Right for Me!
I absolutely loved the Price is Right, not only was it entertaining and funny, it just made Saturday Nights! It was slightly tacky, and you always knew that there would be a Daewoo or Mazda on offer during the showcase, with "Bruce 1" on the numberplate. But because it was tacky, that's why it worked so well.
It was lighthearted stuff and something that all the family would watch and enjoy.
Bruce himself was funny, and i was a bit annoyed when the show ended, but i guess it was going a bit sour.
Everything from "come on down", "now just push down when u feel an urge" to the audience shouting and giving hints in the showcase, and to the weak spins of the elderly participants in the showdown, were all a pleasure to watch.
I would hope that a new edition of the Price is Right will be on our screens in years to come, and someone like Vernan Kay or Ian Wright would be perfect as the host.
Max & Paddy's Road to Nowhere (2004)
A Road to Success
When i first heard about 'Road to Nowhere' i initially thought it would be a let-down, but i found it to be a great laugh and throughly enjoyable.
It was very funny, and both Kay and Mcguinness were fab. It was very much side-splitting comedy, and everything from the opening credits to the background music, max's "how dare you", and the pig in episode 5, all made me laugh.
I do agree with other users' in saying that noticed more things the second time i watched the episodes, but this is because i knew what had happened, so inevitably you'd notice things more.
In all i was very impressed with 'Max and Paddy's road to nowhere' and i can't wait for it to be released on DVD, and for another upcoming series (fingerz crossed.
