Tenet (2020)
Enjoyed it even though it's a bit hard to hear, and follow
It was long yet I enjoyed every moment. But truth be known, I found the concepts a little hard to piece together. I suspect that is because at times it was very difficult to hear. The opening scene is loud and most people are wearing gas masks. And from there On, there are many times where it's hard to hear the dialogue over the other sounds. Maybe it was the cinema mix. Anyway, still enjoyed it immensely. Great stunts and locations, 9/10 acting, like the sci-fi concepts. More adventure than sci-go though, just FYI. Worth the time and money.
Existence (2012)
Loved this
I appreciate a movie with beautiful scenery and sparse dialogue. Im glad I took a punt on this. I would've loved to see what she see though!! Ticks a lot of boxes for me: post apocalyptic, incredible scenery, not a dialogue road train.. Give it a go. Well worth it
The I-Land (2019)
Bit slow, acting is a bit hit and miss
Almost through it. I really wanted to like this but the dialogue is slow where it shouldn't be and the characters are hard to either like or dislike. I'm still waiting for it to pick up but I don't think that will happen now. I probably wont be recommending it to friends at this point.
Lunatics (2019)
Some great characters
If you love Chris Lilley, you'll love this. Solid characters, some great laughs. Really takes a shot at some Aussie stereotypes in ways I wonder if only Chris Lilley can.
South African pretty psychic; gold. 7'3" teenage girl; brilliant. It's cringe, it's irreverent, it's Chris Lilley. Oh and the real estate guys. It's not too fast from the truth!!!
OtherLife (2017)
Glad i ignored the 6.3 star bit
This is great. And Australian! Its got some good twists, its beautiful to look at, shot well, good script. Its a solid piece of sci-fi. Def worth my time. Ignore the poor reviews and give it a shot.
Ni de hai zi bu shi ni de hai zi (2018)
Interesting, pretty, emotive
Ive watched the first one. I was going to wait til Id watched them all before reviewing but that is going to be a long project. The first one was an hour and 40 and the second episode is two hours.
I didn't really know what to expect so i was almost a little confused at first, for around 30-40 minutes and then the plot starts to hang together. Its beautifully shot and the imagery, colours and dream sequences gentle and striking. The acting is spot on which, when watching kids, can be a bit hit and miss at times. But the youngsters in this are great.
The message is not only quite culture specific, but also speaks to the universal theme of the sometimes difficult relationship dynamic and lifelong concern of living up to our parents ideals. And it explores this deeply with the emotion being gut wrenching at times. I became more invested as it went on and I will be watching the rest.
