The Walking Dead: Rock in the Road (2017)
The Walking Dead S07E09 Rock in the Road Review
Season 7 started off very rough, with the death of two major characters, and a new lifestyle for the group, episodes were quite slow, that certainly isn't a negative though, hence season 7 bringing with it big, bad Negan. After S07E01's events, viewer's were left shocked and traumatized, including myself. S07E02 was a much lighter in tone and graphic content compared to the first episode which was honestly a relief although the overall tone the past 8 episodes (S7A) have been very dark in tone and really shows the changes and adjustment that everyone is having to take on thanks to Negan now in charge. After seeing tonight's episode to kick start S7B it felt like the train had finally left the station, the characters are moving forward instead of having filler episodes...which there was a few. I understand what the show runners were doing but it was a very slow start to season 7. I'm glad to say that I'm really happy with this episode, I enjoyed it and has almost all the reasons why I love this show. First off I thought I'd mention what a brilliant job was done on the episode's soundtrack, every track was perfectly done and I feel that it's a very overlooked part of the show, unlike say Game of Thrones, who's soundtrack is praised left, right and centre (rightful so) thanks to the brilliant Ramin Djwadi. It was great to see things happening for once in an episode, Im going to point out all the different things that happened in this episode that made it fantastic ------------SPOILERS--------- --- -- Father Gabriel is up to something Gregory is a total jerk, and has no concern for his people and his allies. Gregory's people want to fight Rick is finally introduced to King Ezekiel at The Kingdom. Rick tells a story relevant to the episode and the situation he's in. Morgan ends up discovering who Negan really is and a glimpse at what has actually happened. Ben catches Carol out in the forest. King Ezekiel talks with Ben about his conversation with Carol King Ezekiel gives Darryl asylum Trouble on a highway ----------------------------------- The point I'm trying to make is that the episode keeps moving, I couldn't find one dull moment. Similar to Game of Thrones storytelling things are constantly happening and multiple stories of characters are being told at once to make one story. Fantastic Stuff AMC. I have two small problems with this episode. The first one applys to some of the most recent episodes too, that is sloppy acting from some people in particular. If you watch the show you will know who, if you don't I won't ruin it for you. I feel the show will be improved when the character is gone. Secondly there is one scene where the group is walking together and the camera is waiting for the characters walking at the back to come in focus so they can start their dialogue, the thing I couldn't stand about this scene is that nobody in the entire group is seen talking, about 10 people are walking and they are all looking at the ground walking looking as silent as robots, it just seemed so stupid and fake. Other than that I really enjoyed this episode, definitely a great way to kick start S7B Episode Classification: MA15+ Episode Length: 51 mins Episode Rating: 9/10
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Hacksaw Ridge - Review
Mel Gibson has come out of his 10 year directing hole and shown us all once again how brilliant he is at directing. His last three films Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ & Apocalypto were all absolutely brilliant films and I'm glad to say, he isn't making rubbish anytime soon. Hacksaw Ridge tells the true story of Desmond Doss, an Army Medic who served in the battle of Okinawa but refused to kill people. "One of the greatest heroes in American history never fired a bullet". Desmond is portrayed by Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man [2012] & Silence [2016]), the film also stars Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving & Vince Vaughan. There is not one performance that I can find a flaw in during the whole duration of the film. The acting is superb which is wonderful, you can connect and empathize with the characters easily. The film does not only explore what Desmond experienced during the battle but explores his childhood, relationships with his family and his partner. It also shows how Desmond came to be on the battlefield without a weapon as a medic. Desmond is a Christian and has a strong belief that going out into the battlefield and fighting is murder, at the same time he wants to serve for his country whilst staying true to his beliefs. When it comes down to the battle sequences in this film, words can't describe it. When the battles start, THEY START! I have never seen battles more terrifying, harrowing, bloody and intense as Hacksaw Ridge. Every single camera angle, all the make-up and CGI are beyond phenomenal. I have never seen war sequences this terrifying since Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan". I cannot praise this film enough for the amount of terror it imparts during these sequences. Andrew Garfield is phenomenal, after being in two awful Spiderman films to be portraying one the greatest war heroes of all time is an astonishing achievement. When it comes to brilliant war movies you think Apocalypse Now, Platoon or Saving Private Ryan. Well Mel has put himself on the map of absolutely stunning War Films. I highly recommend this film, especially to those who are Christian, as a Christian myself it made me think about my morals and how I view "The Act of War". I think everybody should see this film at least once. It's not for the faint of heart, but it gives a brutally accurate representation of the battlefield and a glimpse at what it was actually like for Desmond. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (2012)
What happened to Madagascar?
As a child my favorite animated movie out was "Madagascar" I absolutely loved the humor and the gorgeous animating (which stands to this day) from Dreamworks Animation Studios. Then the sequel which was in my opinion even better, with so much character background and development throughout it was an animated masterpiece. Every character was well played and enjoyable to say the least. I was about 15 years old when I first heard Madagascar 3 was being released and I was excited to revisit my childhoods favorite characters. Man was I wrong! Madagascar 3 just didn't feel the same. It was the same characters as before which I appreciated and the introduction to characters was good too. Animation was gorgeous as always also. The problem that I have with this film is the writers. What were they thinking? The story is so separate and different and unrelated to the previous two films which were great. The story winds the characters to end up travelling with a travelling circus of animals that are touring Europe. From this point on the story goes downhill. It decides to develop the characters from this circus and cover their back stories and why they are what they are like. Which in my opinion takes up to much time throughout the movie and totally spoils it. As for the "Bad Guy" or "enemy" in this film I would say is what ruined this film. The protagonist is a female Russian police officer who decides to hunt down all of the main characters and kill them. Alright then?..I found her character quite dark, sadistic and very annoying to say the least. Although there are a few factors that in my opinion ruin the " Madagascar" franchise the main characters are still lovable and have great character. If you haven't seen this film and have seen the first two then probably don't watch this. Children who aren't bothered by films that have a very different feel to the first two will enjoy this none the less.
Flywheel (2003)
Poor low-budget acting but films message remains good throughout.
The first time I watched this film was several years ago with my Church's Youth Group and I found it hilariously ridiculous due to it's poor acting and bad cinematography over all. I was so focused on the poor acting to notice that there was a message being told and a pretty good one. I'll admit that this movie is not for everyone. It is very lighthearted and has an innocent comedic nature about it but the message remains strong either way. The story follows the life of a crooked car salesman who finds that instead of being crooked and blatantly ripping off his customers that God is the only way to keep his business successful. Whilst the story holds strong bear in mind that this is a low budget film, and that not all the main protagonists circumstances are presented in a way that you feel sympathetic for him, not to say that you can't though, it is just fairly difficult from my point of view. This film had a lot of potential the story is great, if a larger Christian film producer had this in their hands it would be fairly good. Overall I do not recommend this film to everybody as I do not think people without Christian beliefs would be able to appreciate the message as much as people who do would, due to it's poor acting. I do think people that do have Christian beliefs or are fairly open to a film that is solely based on the fact where God is the solution to it all then yes. The film has a lighthearted feel and a good message. Would recommend to families as it has an understanding message and is simply easy to follow.
