Surprisingly Good
14 December 2018
I am surprised that I had never heard of this movie until The Movie Channel showed it this month. It must've had a very short release here in the U.S. To get the complete story, see the documentary "Letters From Baghdad" (2016), narrated by Tilda Swinton, as Gertrude Bell, which was shown on PBS, and was so good, that I didn't even want to watch this one. I did enjoy this one, in spite of their trying to insert romances with men that were less than portrayed. She was truly an independent individual !

Pleasantly surprised

My best friend didn't like this at all, so I went because I love all the stars in it, and so that I could discuss it with her. I thought it was great. The locations were beautiful, and it made me want to go there. It was very real. I loved the performances, Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones are two of my favorites, and I thought Steve Carell was good in his role, as the therapist. I can REALLY associate with this situation. I just hope my husband gets to see it someday soon. He likes the actors, so maybe when baseball season is over, he'll see it ! I recommend it to anyone who's been married a long time, and truly - "Hope Springs" eternal !

First Monday (2002)
Bring Back This Show
7 September 2005
I don't know why it is, but it seem like every time a show with a little intelligence or educational value is put into prime time, it seems to fail. Is the American public really that uninterested ? Or is it that the networks are just so anxious to "make a buck" that they're unwilling to give it time to find an audience and receive "word of mouth" ? I hope one of the cable channels , like USA Network, will show this series. It was excellent, in that it showed the inner workings of the Supreme Court. James Garner, Joe Mantegna, and Charles Durning were great in their roles, and it showed how a decision could affect a Justice's family. It also showed how crucial the research of the clerks is, and how it can make or break a decision. I was so disappointed when it was cancelled after only 13 episodes. Due to the imminent upheaval in the Supreme Court, it should, at the very least, be released on DVD. It was an Emmy -nominated series !
