River of Time (2003)
excellent
I cannot recommend this film highly enough. One of the best films on a modern scientist you will find with interesting early 20th century footage and an interesting conclusion about time machines. Not a dry tome on yet another scientist, but an artistic creation to suit anyone with an interest in film.
The film starts out with Novikov talking about his early life in the USSR and how he let his mind wander rather than worry about all of the terror that surrounded him. He discusses the outlandish notion, at that time, of putting someone on the moon. There are amusing scenes of rocket ships from old science fiction films. Some early rocket launches are shown, although unfortunately they appear to be from the USA rather than the USSR. Maybe footage from old USSR rocket launches is hard to come by, I don't know.
He also discusses his current work in Copenhagen and some of his research predictions.
Note that Novikov should have probably shared the Nobel Prize for the discovery of The Cosmic Microwave Background, but this is not mentioned. He has also written several popular science books and I can recommend "Black Holes and The Universe" if you are interested in how the Cosmic Microwave Background was predicted and discovered from a different point of view than you see in the popular press.
