Wallander: Luftslottet (2006)

Not the best, but one of the better ones
14 November 2006
When I heard that there will be a new Wallander series without Rolf Lassgard as the main character i was quite sceptical and after seeing "innan frosten" I was not really convinced of the new franchise. Luftslottet however proved me wrong. Krister Henriksson certainly interprets the character of the south-Swedish policeman differently than his predecessor, nevertheless he still offers a view on a person with many different facettes. What makes this movie so special, is the fact that the viewer is lead into several wrong directions until finally the murder and the robbery are cleared up. This normally makes any good thriller or crime-story, but the way it is done here is really good quality entertainment. If you get this film as a copy on DVD i predict an interesting evening full of suspension.

Nice Movie with good actors.

The idea behind the film is not really brand new, but it is very well done and watching it was good fun. Eagle Eye Cherry as the old lady's caretaker was awesome. The characters in Att göra en Pudel are sort of extreme but still authentic. A woman who dresses the the hair of dogs as the new age Cinderella is brilliant. Although it is hard to believe that a journalist who has bashed people for so long can really change into a compassionate and loving man, the message "do good and good things will come back to you" came across. I recommend this film to everyone who likes to watch romantic films with loads of humour. "Att göra en Pudel" is one of the best romantic comedies i have seen.

Beck: Flickan i jordkällaren (2006)

A classical whodunnit
1 November 2006
Flickan i Jordkällaren is a classical whodunnit thriller with all ingredients a movie needs in this genre. The two main problems in the movie - who was this dead girl and why did she die in the cellar - are kept unsolved quite long. The spectator gets several possible killers and scenarios and is lead into wrong directions as it is essential in a whodunnit. The investigation even leads Beck to Germany where he meets a colleague, Kommissar Sperling. A short sequence of the German TV-Series Aktenzeichen XY is shown, in which the police calls for help to identify the little girl. This creates a realistic environment and makes Flickan i Jordkällaren to one of the best Beck movies.
