What Happened to Tarantino?
29 December 2019
Used to be a huge fan but his last couple of movies have been terrible. As other reviewers said, I'm waiting and waiting for this movie to get interesting. At about an hour in I am going to give up. I paid to rent it but am just too bored to cre anymore.

Excellent as Expected

All I knew going in was Helen Mirren and Ian McClellan and possibly a con. As I read many, many mysteries, I thought I'd figured out the twist from the beginning. So very wrong. Was surprised by the mini and major climaxes. Thoroughly enjoyed watching these two legendary actors work together.

Disappointing

Saw the trailer and was intrigued, but the movie left me somewhat stunned. Not at all what I was expecting. There were funny bits but they never lifted me out of the extraordinary sadness. Found it difficult to stay to the end but glad I did for Sam Rockwell's final scene.

Lovely movie

It's always such a pleasure to go to a movie about interesting people, slice-of-life as it were. Nothing huge happens. No car chases or special effects. Just real, human emotion and experience. A quiet little story about real people.

Patricia Clarkson is always interesting. Ben Kingsley is superb as the Sikh.

There are two scenes that had me laughing very loudly, but throughout most of the movie I was just smiling and sympathizing with the believable characters.

The story was not predictable. I enjoyed every second of it and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys character-driven movies.

Not as bad as it could have been

Warning: Spoilers
Was surprised that it wasn't terrible. The only stand out mistake was Tom Cruise - who cast him as a rock star? He had the weakest voice, no stage presence, just couldn't buy him as a singer. Especially when there are so many actors who would have been great in this part. Overall it was a fun movie, even though I hated '80s music then and now. Love musicals. Glad I saw it as I missed the play when it came through this year. Enjoyed Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin's relationship throughout the film - that was one of the highlights. The songs were worked well into the story. Catherine Zeta-Jones had a lot of fun with her part - loved her new look at the end of the show!
