Murder Is Easy (2023)
Entertaining
I thoroughly enjoyed this production. The cast and performances are outstanding. The story is set in a small English town in the 1950s. Murder Is Easy is an excellent mystery and keeps you guessing until the end. There are likable characters and characters that are simply despicable. Murders staged as accidents are happening left and right. The victims are people speaking out against the Lord of the Manor. I do have one criticism and it's a major one. Like I said, the story is set in the 1950s. And the main character is black. The actor was excellent but a black man in a small English town being immediately accepted by everyone is totally unrealistic. Well almost everyone. The woman running the boarding house did turn the sign to "No Vacancies" when he came in however, when presented a large amount of cash, she relented. He's invited to high society parties at the manor with no heads turning. It's the same as he navigates the town. It's as if a black man in a small English town was normal. In the 1950s it would have been anything but. I found it distracting. I guess my expectations are too high as I expect a reasonable amount of historical accuracy in period dramas. Aside from this Murder is Easy is an excellent drama.
Outer Range (2022)
Pathetic excuse for a soap opera.
I made it through episode 4. No more! Outer Range was supposed to be sci-fi set in the west. What it has turned out to be is a gawdaful mess of the most unlikable characters you've ever met created around a big hole in the ground and a mountain that "blinks out" excuse for a boring, hum-drum soap opera. The only sci-fi so far are the aforementioned hole and mountain. Not only is there little to no sci-fi the story draaaaaaaaags on forever and ever and ever with nothing of interest happening. Like I said, I made it through episode 4 and I seriously don't know how I got that far. YAWN. Do yourself a real big favor and give Prime's Outer Range a miss. You can thank me later.
Breach (2020)
No words!!!!
Just watched Breach on Prime.
OH! MY! GAWD!
When did Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane get so desperate they would sign on to a "movie" like this!? Believe me when I say there are no words in the human lexicon to describe how bad this movie is, there are no words in the human lexicon to describe how bad this movie is!!!!
Bliss (2021)
Dreadful!
Honest to god has there ever been a more obnoxious character than Selma Hayak's character in Bliss? Believe me, you'd have to look far and wide to find one. This movie was, in a word, DREADFUL!! In fact it wasn't even that good. If I could give it a minus rating , I would. Don't get sucked in by all the reviews telling you that it's a wonderful depiction of addiction and mental illness. What it is is a gigantic waste of time. Do yourself a favor and give Bliss a pass.
The Vast of Night (2019)
Ridiculous!
Omg! Steer way clear of this Amazon original. Apparently it's meant to be a homage to 50s sci-fi via a Twilight Zone format. The first 20-30 minutes is nonstop, meaningless dialogue between two characters that has nothing and I mean nothing to with anything. The rest of the movie was inane, boring dialogue with ridiculous, pointless photography. Maybe they were trying to be artsy. I don't know. Whatever they were trying to do it was just one big FAIL! When they finally got around to developing a semblance of a story if was so predictable to be laughable. Do yourself a favor and watch glue drying. You'll find it imminently more entertaining.
The Mandela Effect (2019)
Ugh!
Pseudo, intellectual jibber-jabber. Enough said.
I have to write more because I didn't have enough characters.
Another Life (2019)
Does it get better? Do you care?
I was really excited when this show dropped. Several months later we sat down to watch and all I can say is WHY!? I cannot believe how bad this show is. Aside from the A I there is not a single likable character. This includes Sackhoff's character, Nico. Not only are the characters obnoxious and unlikable, there is no chemistry between the actors. The writing is abysmal, understatement here, and the directing is worse. What was Netflix thinking?!
Dark (2017)
Season 2 too pretentious
I fully enjoyed Season 1 and looked forward to Season 2. What a disappointment. The writers got so caught up trying to make the story into some deep philosophical something or other that they got lost. They turned what could and should have been an unforgettable work of art into a pretentious thing to forget. It's a pity really.
Vyzhit posle (2013)
Interesting
So far I am finding this show interesting and hope to finish Season 1 tomorrow.
My only serious observation is the English subtitles. They really are bad and at times I find myself having to reread them and interject what makes sense (to me) to make any sense of the dialogue. It has cast an unfortunate pale over the show.
London Fields (2018)
I wish you could give minus stars as a rating
This movie is a real stinker and that's the best thing I can say about it. If Jim Stugess' does not win an award for most dreadful, horrible performance in a movie for London Fields, there is no God.
The ABC Murders (2018)
Agatha Christie is rolling over in her grave
I had high hopes for The ABC Murders. My hope was misplaced. I don't know who's idea it was to cast John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot but, as far as I'm concerned, they should lose their job. What was that "accent" Malkovich was doing? Half the time it sounded like he was playing Charlie Chan. Not once did it sound French or as Hercule Poirot (not played by Malkovich) would say, not French, Belgian!! Anyway, Poirot is small in stature, vain and extremely fussy about his appearance and the way he walks. Also, Poirot has one of the most famous moustaches in literature so why did they have Malkovich wear a Van Dyke beard? Perhaps it was meant to be a "new" take on Poirot but they did themselves, and Agatha Christie no favors.
If you can get past Malkovich you might enjoy this show. Me? I watched all 3 parts but it was painful.
