The Good House (2021)
If a Hallmark movie were in theaters
Don't waste your time on this flop. I never ever review movies but I feel like I need to warn people to stay away from this film unless they want to fall asleep.
Sure Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline pull off good performances but that is about the only redeeming factor for this film.
So many scenes and lines of dialogue were pointless. And what is with breaking the fourth wall? It was just strange. The pacing was off for the entire film, and the ending was underwhelming to say the least. Seriously, I'm not screenwriter or film editor and feel like I could have done a better job of making this story move faster and have better dialogue. There's not much of a story to begin with so maybe it was doomed from the start, but they certainly could have done better by adding more dramatic elements or even just shortening some of the scenes.
If you like Hallmark movies, you'll probably like this.
The Last Duel (2021)
Good premise but terribly told
Everything is superb: the actors, the dialogue, the action sequences, the costumes, etc. However, the one thing that is lacking is the one thing that matters: the storytelling. I almost wonder if it was a good choice to do the "same story from three perspectives" trope because so much was lacking. It dragged in many places and there was way too much backstory and many scenes that were unnecessary. More action is needed in the beginning.
Altogether, it was still a good film, though, if you're interested in Medieval themed flicks.
Hostel (2005)
Don't waste your time
I went to this film expecting to see a horror flick about a sadistic person. As someone who enjoys horror films, this one anything but enjoyable. The fact that some of things happening in the film are plausible is the only that is scary about it. There is gore but nothing that would make viewers of 'The Passion of the Christ' or either 'Saw' or 'Saw II' cringe. The attraction that this film has is horror, but that is not the focus of the movie until a good hour into it. Three males go to Europe to have fun, and that is exactly what they do. Mr. Roth, the director, has been generous with shots of half-naked women and rectums. Not to mentioned people smoking weed, a content of sex, the sexual references, and horrible language. This film is definitely not for young children. The focus of the first half of the film is sex. I for one did not go to the theater to see a porno. Parents beware.
