Worth the watch

R. I. P. Henry

Storyline:

"Follows Henry Johnsen who starts a secret battle to find a cure for an incurable brain tumor he was diagnosed with, but as he struggles to keep his usual air of superiority, will he be open about his feelings?"

Review/Verdict:

I really enjoyed this series. It might not be for everyone as it is a bit of slow-burner. But, if you stick it out, I am confident you will be glad you did.

Without wanting to give anything away, I will say that it has a subtlety, whilst being ultra human. And it comes with a certain kind of a charm. If you are looking for a bit of something, a bit of everyday mixed with the opposite, something human, with bit of depth, that carries a pretty heavy load overall, but does so, quite lightly...then you will be in for a treat. But...follow through and finish the series.

8.2/10.

The Guy Across The TV Who Wasted His Time
2 February 2022
I gave this a go. Waste of time. Not clever, not ironic, sarcastic or funny. Some potential there, can't say anything more positive than that. My 4 out of 10 star rating is harsh and generous at the same time. Clearly this had a budget. Shame on you, shame on Netflix. Give me 20 minutes, I will write better. From the Guy in The House That Clearly Had Nothing Better To Do to the guy who watched it and Regrets Every Minute.

This is an 8 episode 20-25 min per episode series. Because the episodes are so short it "sucks you in". Want to punch someone.

Is this for real?!?
19 January 2022
It is like watching a movie directed by a 10 year old with ADHD. There is obviously a story but the way it is told is beyond ridiculous. Hallmark wouldn't even bite. What a shame and a waste. Zero flow/continuity. No character or relationship build ups. But I hope the director passed the class.

Awful

This was dreadful to watch. Director and writer tried to be smart and visual. I was bored from start. What a waste of an amazing cast and what could have been an interesting story. Zero insight/view. What a waste.

Enjoyable but annoying
6 August 2021
I assume this is meant to be a female empowering action with bit of comedy, satire and not taking itself too seriously kind of series. And as that, it is enjoyable. I however, can not excuse unnecessary plot holes in the story and even worse, it then dumbs down and portrays the same empowered characters as total idiots. I will paraphrase some examples, so not to give any spoilers. Why would you leave the keys in the car? Why would you not shoot the tires of a car? Why, why, why? Also, why would the creators make a big scene of the girls driving off road with a motorcycle, only for the motorcycle do be discovered on the road later? Have fun with the story, but please keep it as realistic as possible. Stupid and unnecessary plot holes are extremely irritating and disrespectful to the viewer unless they are part of a joke. But you can look past those and it is a fun pop-corn action melodrama-novella meets roberto rordriguez.

Boooooring!!!

First 30 minutes are the peek. Cliches done badly, nothing interesting about this movie. Could not wait for it to end. No logic, nothing good to report. RIP Voyagers. Hope I help stop anyone from wasting their time watching this. Can not even be bothered reviewing this movie more. Does not deserve it.

With Remorse - for watching this.
1 May 2021
I gave this a kind 4/10. Only because I like some of the actors in the movie. Not in this movie obviously. They were dreadful. The acting could not have been rehearsed or done in more than a take. The story and "twists" abysmal. Day time soaps have more going. How did this get made? Only thing that was OK was Guy Pierce's American non specific American accent. But don't waste your time. Whatever you are looking for, you are not going to find it here. 3.5/10.

Everything I wanted
1 March 2021
I heard Billie (and Finneas) Eilish a couple of years ago for the first time. I am an avid music lover, but there is something so special about her voice and their lyrics. It defies ages. Not the Voice of a generation, the Voice for Generations. I am older but feel no shame at all, only awe at this magnificent talent.

I found the documentary insightful, touching and at times disturbing. It gave such an honest portrayal of her, from every angle. So refreshing to see someone and so young, so confident in her "uncomfortableness" and "comfortableness". Willing to share and discuss it all. I found it all, very moving.

There was a disturbing part however, the business, which felt like #metoo. How can you force and push and push someone in such a way, not even taking her age into account?

Billie and her brother, are geniuses that defy any age. I found myself deeply enthralled in their journey, as well as part of the disease, as I was left wanting to see more. Made me think of her song "Everything I wanted". Think that song summarizes her journey and documentary.

We do not own people/artists and this kind of industry with it's suffocation and exploitation surely has to seize before it destroys what it is supposed to be nurturing and promoting. Preaching and hypocrisy combined, I loved it. For all the wrong and right reasons.

9/10. This must have taken forever to film and was clearly done so with heart. Breathtaking, captivating and emotional.

A soft spoken film
8 February 2021
There will be countless reviews better than mine, but I thought I would start making an effort and comment more on all I watch. I assume that you are more likely to appreciate this if you are an Australian or Kiwi, from the outback, or from the hills of Wales or Scotland. You might perhaps have a deeper understanding and appreciation of this story and/or scenery. However, it's definitely not a requirement. Apparently this is originally an Icelandic story. I have not seen it and I am sure it possibly not only holds it ground but possibly owns it too. Had I known before watching the movie (I never read reviews or watch trailers before watching a movie), I would have watched that. But too late for that, so here we are.

Sam Neill? Well, I would like to know what his deal is? Is it the pure organic nature and produce he lives on/and off to defy age? 73?!? Wow/How!?! That aside, it is simple and endearing. The acting is pure and simple, nothing more or less than what it deserves. You will struggle to find any faults in any of the acting. Most of the movie is implied and felt through the looks, actions, scenery, without "needless" words. In some ways, it made me think of "The Straight Story" (- I do prefer the latter and if you enjoy this, you will definitely like the Straight Story).

If you are looking for action, keep looking. If you want a simple story with some heart, then you might enjoy this. It's reassuring and important that these kind of movies are still being made.

Strong 6,5/10.

A Promising Disappointment
4 February 2021
On first viewing, when the movie came out, I found it decent, especially considering it was thought of as an indie/lower budget part of the "genre".

Having re-watched it, dissecting, I can, no matter how I try to, ignore the bad acting and the constant changes in characters accents (or attempts of accents) , along with all drive-by holes in the story-line. Hannibal did not rise and really, should just have stayed in bed or in the kitchen...and alone. Wherever we would be least likely to see him.

Thought somehow it is watchable, the real shame is that this could have actually been something. If I have to blame somebody for the uncomplicated errors that occurred during this "operation", I have to shift the blame on the director.

Directed by someone with a vision, someone who required a pinch of acting from his cast and a story worth its ink, from its writer/s... mixed together, with subtle dose of wit and few ounces of fluidity to the story-line, this could have made it (survived). As it is, it will...if already not, be dismissed and forgotten...because they really butchered it. Pan intended.

5.5/10.

Decent action, no story.

Story made no sense. If you want to spend millions on action scenes, why oh why can you not spend more than 100 hundred on the story? Shame, could have and should have been better. Watchable.

All about the money
10 April 2020
I did not like the first 2...but somehow they pulled a rabbit our of the hat! A dead one. I watched the first 2, back in the day, on DVD, when there were no other new releases to watch. Sadly, somehow, this is not even on a par with those. I really like Will Smith. But..he does not need the money and I never took him for one for the attention. Clearly, I was wrong. Nothing to say about the film, because there is nothing to it. If you are going to spend 50-100 million on a film, can you at least spend $500 on the script? Embarrassing. I originally gave this movie a 5, because I like Will Smith and because for some reason this became a trilogy...and I would be a hypocrite, since I have now seen all 3. Hope we can officially call them Bad Movies. Even Inner Circle deserve better. Thought COPS was bad enough. What are you going to do when they name another movie-thing after you? Inner Circle and cinema audiences, the real victims. Shame this movie did not come out a few months later, when the world ended up in lockdown. To stay true to the move, I will not even be bother writing a proper review for this.

Nothing to report. This is a horrible waste of time, not talent. Do anything but waste your time on this. No comments or analysis required or deserved. Poor, poor, poor. Avoid like the plague. No offence to the plague, it would give you a better story and some real "acting". The less said the better. Fake reviews, any positive one can not be real.

Watchable

This will not do anything for you but keep you on the borders of slight amusement. Story holes enough to fill the White house releases, the plot and the relationships are about as realistic as toilet paper under water. It's not bad, but it's not good. If you are that bored, better check out some classics you might have missed or revisit your favourites. A stong 5+/6-.

Make Us Dream (2018)

What a beauty!!!
23 November 2018
This was a wonderful football/biography for any football fan and enthusiast, but also a sincere character study... Of people, community, culture and of a rare relationship between a city/Liverpool F.C and one of it's greatest representatives. He is of one of the most gifted and unique players of all time, with a passion that shines on and off the pitch/camera.

Make Us Dream did made me think of some of the ugly side of human nature, some of the duality, the thin line between love and hate. How thin it is in some, sain/insane and how these fractions of moments effect life. The uglyand beautiful side of of humanity it brings out. How it connects us from strangers. Could walk into a bar anywhere in the world and instantly connect with someone watching your team play.

There is pressure in each of our lives, from ourselves and from others. Then there is the pressure that only few people in our modern world ever get to experience, which is constant, intence and practically unimaginable. Though many moments are missed, essence of the man and his career are captured and it is an honest and emotional journey. "A player like him comes only along once in every 40-50 years, once in a lifetime". Shame that we did not get to see more of his great moments for club and suprisingly nothing for country, but that is not what this was meant to focus on and there simple are too many of those to include, but that is what we have Youtube for... He is (almost?) to Liverpool what Maradona is to Napoli. But there is only one Maradona...but there also is also only one Steven Gerrad. A very, very worthy watch of a special, special player.
