garbage pure
25 July 2014
Utter garbage ! if u don't understand the German history from 1933-1945 keep your finger away from this ! Some Hollywood's propaganda media products are PURE GARBAGE and just lied to you and your children will be sadly learning a wrong historical fact. As a human being, Hitler came to power to establish the prosperity and improve the German labor skills (historical facts). If the Nazis should have created a super monster in this film, they would have won the war !! Sadly the idiots will enjoy this movie so much ! the special effects look like something from an 70's film. Despite the poor script some actors try and some don't one German soldier has a terrible accent and may as way stay silent. Watch out spoiler: black - man, dumb voluptous silicon blondie woman who works as a spion, 5 negative stars, unappetite/disgusting

anti Chinese movie & a Hollywood stereotype crap against the Chinese
11 February 2014
the Chinese are described a barbarians, the film did make the Chinese (the Boxer who were in fact the nationalist movement) as bad guys. Keep in mind that foreign traders were making money selling opium to Chinese, and you can understand some of the animosity. It would be like Columbian drug cartels using force of arms to demand their right to sell cocaine in the U.S. But putting the political correctness aside, it is a very good film about an event that happened. You might also watch "Khartoum" about the battle between Muslim religious fanatics and British colonialism.

Colonists are never popular, To glorify the intruding foreigners' actions in China in the wake of the Opium Wars during the late colonial period is a terrible thing to do. Doing so is along the same lines as glorifying the Nazis' actions in the invasion of Poland and in the Holocaust. To put things into perspective, for those who may not understand just how bad (morally) this movie is, imagine how Jewish people might feel, should a Hollywood movie be released that not only viewed the Holocaust from the Nazi perspective, but went so far as to glorify their actions. Looking at it from the other side's perspective is one thing (the German perspective of WWII and Holocaust, or in the case of this movie the foreigners' perspective). However, glorifying it is something else altogether - and this movie crossed the line in no small measure. To add insult to injury, the Chinese characters were portrayed by white actors, and even caricatured. This is stupid anti Chinese crap !

Here's the setup: The foreign imperialists from Europe, America and Russia are the GOOD guys. The Boxers who are trying to defend their nation, their empress and their way of life from the onslaught of expansionists are the BAD guys. Barely anything about this movie is correct. History actually proved that the foreign forces actually suffered huge losses in close quarter combat with the Boxers, but you would never see a western film maker with the balls to acknowledge that, and so the Boxers are treated as just as savage and sloppy as Native Americans where depicted in films of this era.

Warning: Spoilers
The year is 2001, its been 5 years since Guitar Maestro Steve Morse joined the Purpls and they gave us the magnificent Purpendicular album. A bit older, a bit grayer, but the spirit is still there. The classics are all there, Highway Star, Woman from Tokyo and the irrepressible Smoke on the Water. But alongside that they give stunning performances from the "Mk.Morse" era as well delving heavily into the Fireball album. Mary Long, from Who Do We Think We Are, also makes an appearance! All in all, this makes for an incredibly varied setlist, something for everyone! Highlightsfor me are the extended Speed King (solos and duels galore!) and possible the most electric version of Highway Star since Made In Japan! Theextras are a nice addition, the band as warm, inviting and opinionated as ever! and Gillan's voice has stood the test of time, i rate this DVD 5stars for that alone, he's the best in the business!

Ritchie had quit for good

Warning: Spoilers
Blackmore was one hell of a jerk and ruined several songs including Highway Star and Smoke on the Water. Having said that the concert as a whole is great. Sadly enough there is not a large amount of good quality recordings that the band deserves. Thus there are many good parts of the concert that hit their highwater mark too.

My only other Deep Purple mdvd is their 40th anniversary mdvd. The video part is exceptional but the sound really is bad except for 5 or 6 songs. You just could not crank it up loud where you want and like it to be.

Then my new Onkyo TX-NR808 changed all that. The sound was upconverted to 5.1 on most of the songs and suddenly the 40th anniversary Deep Purple was competitive on a Saturday night party. This mdvd has a much better recording quality and does even better on a Saturday night.

Honestly I would rather have Made In Japan on mdvd any day but you cannot always get what you want either. This is, however, one of the few Deep Purple I do not have on cd or digitally remastered cd so it is fresh for me to hear.

Then again my King Biscuit Flower Hour cd would be a wonderful selection for someone to archive and mdvd it. If not then Live in London or Made in Europe.

I did like Blackmore enough to consider buying his Rainbow: Live in Munich 1977 mdvd.

the best deep purple MK III gig ever
10 September 2013
Deep Purple were the biggest selling album act in America when they embarked on a 28 date tour promoting their new album "Burn". The undoubted climax of this tour was headlining the California Jam Festival at Ontario Speedway in California, in front of 200,000 people. Their explosive set is presented here on DVD for the first time. The set list includes tracks from "Burn", as well as classics like "Space Truckin'" and "Smoke On The Water".

As the show came to a close, Blackmore - angered by troubles backstage - took his revenge on one of the TV cameras, before exploding his amps and destroying several guitars. It made for a visually astonishing climax to the set, and almost got the band banned from playing live in America again. This fully-restored edition contains a missing track, bonus camera angles, commentaries and many other bonus options.

Ritchie Blackmore: Guitar * David Coverdale: Vocals Glenn Hughes: Bass/Vocals * Jon Lord: Keyboards Ian Paice: Drums

Track List: 1) Arrival At Airport 2) Burn 3) Might Just Take Your Life 4) Lay Down, Stay Down 5) Mistreated 6) Smoke On the Water 7) You Fool No One 8) Space Truckin'
