Stand Up Guys (2012)
I don't know that I've ever seen a 10/10 movie.
Remember a cheesy old song with a hook that says "There ain't no tens?" Same thing. I'm not sure that there is a perfect movie, but this one is excellent. I can't believe it got a rating of 6.6 on IMDb.
Were the negative reviews because of this not being 'cinematic art' - a dense plot with indecipherable dialogue? A movie only appreciated by true aficionados of the art house theatre? Perhaps there weren't enough car chases, gunfights and fake martial arts? This was a fantastic movie, plain and simple....both my description and the movie itself, actually. Great characters, superlative acting and some real insight into how time eventually passes all of us by.
Do yourself a favour and see this.....and appreciate it for what it is.
Love at First Sight (1977)
I just LOVED this movie.
Budget clearly means little when all the other elements are first rate. So many of the gags are subtle - not so they're hard to spot, but there's no special effort made to draw your attention to them.
The KFC goof was one of my all time favourite "little" moments in a movie.....not least because it takes about 1\2 the movie to get from the setup to the punchline.
I'm not sure why I need to write more lines of text, but apparently I do. I really don't have a lot more to say about this little gem of a movie, but I suppose I can keep typing, just to fill up space. Think of all the ones and zeros that are giving their lives so pointlessly.
