Silent Witness (1996)
Long in the tooth at 26
We used to really enjoy this show. Writers fatigue has plainly set in. There's a new boss who's a data analyst fiend that doesn't get his moments which would create some useful tension. The writing is flat and inspired. The episode on climate change was absurd and preachy. The romance between Nikki and Jack is used to stretch out scenes and to let writers escape writing anything interesting. We have no desire to return it to our menu of viewing.
I do one positive comment: there is some hope as they have brought in a wonderful character caught between two worlds of his cultural upbringing and his uncertain future in the secular world.
Christmas Eve on Sesame Street (1978)
A Tender Sweet Christmas Special
My kids grew up on this special and it remains as wonderful as it does timeless. Oscar's nasty question gives way to a presentation of the magic of Christmas. I love it even more now in my '60s with my grandkids growing up in a world where it feels tenderness and kindness are in short supply.
