Sam Bahadur (2023)

It's a Secular Account of What It Means To Be An Indian
28 January 2024
You would typically expect an army film to speak to mainstream nationalism or glorify the symbols of nationalist pride. Sam Bahadur does no such thing, it's driven by impeccable focus on character of a man embroiled in turmoils of history.

It's sad that Sam Bahadur had to release alongside a film like Animal, that deprived it of the love and praise it deserves. I am all praises for Vicky Kaushal. To be honest I was extremely impressed watching Ranbir Kapoor in Animal, but Vicky Kaushal takes it up a notch. His hold on the character's body language, tonality and delivery is breath taking to watch throughout. The screenplay, dialogues and editing work have been done beautifully.

Watch this film if you haven't already. Sheer joy!

WTF is this?
27 January 2024
I have started watching the series so I have to finish it but having watched web series like Family Man, Special Ops, Jack Ryan, Farzi.. This is a HUGE disappointment. Had this been a movie it would have done better, since there are so many stupid exchange of dialogues that it becomes super cringe.

You can tolerate characters not sticking to their roles for 2 hours but this is 4 and a half hours and repeated torture. I am really just watching it to complete it now. Had someone just asked this question on the set or during scriptwriting, "What would X character of a police officer/terrorist/politician do or say in this situation?" the result would have been extremely different. I feel the actors did their jobs well, but the overall tone/direction/script/dialogue didn't give them enough room to work with.

Can't Wait For The Universe To Develop
12 February 2023
Farzi starts as a genuine story of a struggling publishing newspaper. The story evolves so beautifully into a crime thriller. Shahid Kapoor's acting was on point and a lot of credit goes to Firoz also, for playing Sunny (Shahid Kapoor's) honest and loyal friend, a tough part to play really. It was a delight to see Amol Palekar on screen after so long and Kay Kay Menon's performance as a counterfeiting mafia don was a cherry on the top.

Michael played by Vijay is shown as a loyal enforcement officer (loyal to his duty, not to the government) and like all Raj and DK shows, the balance and intermingling of the personal and professional of all characters forms the backdrop of the entire story.

With Shahid Kapoor being placed as a rising criminal, this series can really take shape for the better. I can't wait for Srikant Tiwari and Sunny to meet in person.

Family Man 3 might just have glimpses of the Farzi universe as well, so there is no telling what lies ahead.

To Review This Film Is Above Everyone's Pay Grade
27 January 2023
The reviews here are an excellent depiction of how people have lost their long slightedness and are looking for a quick fix to their entertainment needs. To say that the movie is slow.. The purpose of a film is not to always tell you a complete-quick story, it's to entertain you. The visuals of the film are a delight in themselves, I would have loved to see some more of that. Also, I can clearly see the movie developing into a trilogy or a quadogy (if that's a word). So, the movie takes time to familiarize you with the characters of the water and also touches upon the different powers the children of Jake Sully and the water tribes possess and even the animals.

I can obviously see it developing into an all out war and each Avatar is basically moving from battle to battle before that happens. If you don't have the patience to frikkin sit through the beautiful developments of various characters and storylines, then you have failed as an audience.

Don't Believe the Nasty Reviews
27 January 2023
I think the Indian audience is kind of losing the lens of analysing a film correctly. The movie, although fictional, was perfect in so many ways. The characters sketches were brilliant. Sidharth Malhotra's acting was better than I have ever seen before. There are some reviews calling him a "robot", that can't be farther from the truth. He was a robot in Student of The Year, but the improvement in his acting is very clear. At no point did I feel that he is not the character he is playing but an actor playing the character.

Kumud Mishra's acting was spot on and Rashmika played a brilliant role too. Also, are people expectint some grand climax or a big twist in all stories? The brilliance of this film is how Tariq manages to get intel on Pakistan while maintaing his cover and with limited means. In that regard this film is extremely brilliant. His smart mouth gets him out of so many situations and those scenes depict real life scenarios very closely.

Please see the film for what it is and not what you expect out of it. It's a delight to watch in so many ways.

Don't Know Why People Disliked The Movie So Much
6 November 2022
I think the movie was great! I had read and heard a couple of reviews where someone said that the tonality that Aamir Khan used for the character was coming across as pretense or stupid, however, I didn't find that to be the case at all.

The film captures multiple events from the 80s, 90s beautifully while knitting together a great story of the protagonist. I found the roles of Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan fitting together perfectly and the movie is able to hit the emotional notes that it intends to hit.

I am really sad that the movie was so under appreciated.. This just goes to show how mainstream opinions about any piece of art can be so misleading. This is the kind of movie that becomes a cult classic later. I hope it does!

Great movie!
29 August 2022
This is one of the best suspence thrillers of all time! Rajkumar Rao comes back with another brilliant performance. I was at the edge of my seat at all times. There are no loose ends, no lengthy scenes that are irrelevant to the storyline. The movie gives you a raw investigation with the known facts where you can almost play along.

Don't go by the reviews of popular media outlets, experience the movie first hand. The performaces by the entire starcast were extremely realistic, crisp and to the point. Although, Sanya Malhotra doesn't have a meaty role, the story revolves around her. Go watch now!!
