The Collingswood Story (2002)
Much better than practically every Hollywood horror
an online friend of mine recommended this film to me and im eternally grateful, since Blair Witch,Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity hit at the box office this genre seems to be growing and growing but whats odd is that quality found footage horror films like this one just seem to slip under the radar so to speak, it is easily on a par with Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch, in fact i found the way it built the suspense and the subtle clues it left during the films dialogue that points to an unexpected conclusion is very clever indeed, in fact if you watch it twice you truly appreciate it more, The director got great performances out of the 4 main characters and Stephanie Dees is particularly good in her role, I would recommend watching it alone as there is nothing worse than watching it with someone who demands constant blood and gore in their horror or at least 1 death every 10 mins as they will annoy you, but if you appreciate suspense and subtlety in your horror you will really enjoy this one
The Wicksboro Incident (2003)
a lot better than Hollywoods latest offerings
im sorry but this is way better than crap like 13 ghosts, freddy vs jason or any of the Texas chainsaw massacre prequel/sequels, i admit the ending was a bit lame but so was Blair Witch and i still enjoyed that.
I applaud the film-makers as at least it was an original idea compared to Hollywoods habit of hiring hacks to re-ruin great horror movies of the 60's & 70's, i mean seriously what is peoples problem with this film? just because it is laden with CGI special effects a lot of the viewing public seem to switch off but i still rate this much better, these guys did a great job for next to no money and the acting wasn't that bad either. well worth a look in my opinion
[Rec] (2007)
outstanding
After the runaway success of Blair Witch, i always had a sense that the mockumentary horror genre could do with a kick in the behind and taken in a more full on direction and this film does it superbly, i watched it without reading the description of the film and was completely blown away with how the film lulls you into a sense of safety at the start, i was thinking how can people be trapped inside a modern day apartment buliding (i knew vaguely that it was a horror).
Im not going to spoil anything but the from the first horror moment the film just keeps delivering great shocks minute after minute and it just keep getting better & better until the end. Everyone who i have showed this film too has loved it including my dumber friends who i had to really persuade as they don't like foreign language films My hat goes off to the film-makers a dazzling unique horror that im sure Hollywood will ruin when 'Quarantine' comes out viva espana (or catalonia as the film is based in Barcelona)
