Black Cloud (2004)
Inspirational, Dramatic, Soul-stirring, and Realistic Action!
This film is based upon a true story and the backdrop is of a spirited, yet troubled & angry, young man from the dine'navajo nation who finds an emotional outlet in the boxing ring. His coach, played by the late great Russel Means,is the young man's wise mentor and friend with much love and a strong belief in his pupil. The plot accurately depicts some aspects of life on the rez and the struggles of a young man who finds himself on the path to something better while battling to escape the haters & negativity that want to pull him down. I believe this is this film is powerful, inspirational, and touching. Reminiscent of the Rocky film, which evoked personal sentiment in Italian-Americans while stirring the hearts of 'all' Americans, this film evokes much personal emotion for Native Americans while I believe touching the hearts of 'all' Americans. A film natives will personally relate to while everyone will share in the human experience of tribulation & triumph! Eddie Spears gave a wonderful and convincing performance as one could not only see his emotional pain and triumph but one can actually feel it! I'm getting goose bumps just writing about it! I believe I will have to watch it again! This young actor, as well as many of the native actors in this film, displayed real talent in their performances. I hope to see more films starring Eddie Spears! :)
Red Cloud: Deliverance (2012)
I was taken in by this film! Drama, mystery, and action!
Can't wait to see the entire film! I like that it has more substance than other action films today. I like the depth of the character, Redcloud, and the way that he is humble yet confident. His character is complex and multi-layered so it's like peeling away an onion as we get to know more about him & his story. He is dangerous but compassionate towards the suffering & the weak. He's a bad guy with good intentions. His character draws us in because he evokes our empathy to his plight and we see what drove him to the path that he is upon. Often one whom is a victim of injustice can become driven to pursue a path of recompense. A good hearted man of peace and kindness can find himself on such a path of self-destruction. We can relate to that part of his conflicted soul.
I must also commend a job well done in conveying so much of this character's soul with non-verbal communication. That is the mark of a gifted actor, to communicate so much with so little words. The lead actor (Kruz) has a gift for this and I think that Benjamin Bratt & Adam Beach will have to step aside for Alex Kruz. :) Also, let me add that I enjoyed the song that is played on the classical guitar in the film. Very invocative of melancholic emotion. He has a good chance at a career in music if he decides to move on to other things, I would have to say. This actor also does his own stunts according to the credits at the end of this episode 1, which is always impressive. Let me stop so as not to burden this native actor with overconfidence. LOL.
By far my very favorite film and I look forward to seeing the rest of the episodes! HOO-AH!
