The People's Court (1997)
The People's Court is excellent!
Judge Marilyn Milian of The People's Court is an excellent judge. She respects everyone who comes in her courtroom (although her litigant interviewer and attorney-poller do not). This is highly recommended over all courtroom shows. Unlike other television judges, Judge Milian never resorts to curses, and is actually very funny. Judge Milian is the best judge yet on the show, and is a great improvement over previous judges. In fact, this series is better than the original The People's Court. This show is highly recommended to children over the age of ten (because younger children will not digest the suits or will be bored out of their minds). Hopefully, litigant interviewer Curt Chaplin and attorney-poller Harvey Levin will learn to respect people, and then The People's Court will be absolutely perfect.
Show Boat (1936)
Show Boat was an excellent movie!
Show Boat was an excellent movie. The best performances are by Charles Winninger, Queenie Smith, and Sammy White as Captain Andy, Ellie, and Frank. The musical numbers are also wonderful, especially "Goodbye, My Lady Love", "Can't Help Loving That Man", and "Make Believe". This movie is far better than its 1929 predecessor and its 1951 remake. Although Irene Dunne and Allen Jones felt director James Whale was an inappropriate choice as director for this movie, because he was British, the fact that he was an outsider and could therefore view the work from a different dimension was arguably one of the film's best assets. I highly recommend this movie for people over the age of ten (younger children, although may enjoy the music, may be frightened or bored).
Clue (1985)
Clue was an exceptional movie.
Clue was an exceptional movie. The best performances in the movie is that of Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White, who was able to make the audience alternately hate her (as she revealed she had killed several ex-husbands) and feel somewhat sorry for her (as she is actually honest about having killed Yvette). Tim Curry and Lesley Ann Warren also performed well. The humor is also excellent; some jokes are very obvious, and others are very subtle (for example, Mr. Green asks Wadsworth if "the FBI is in the habit of cleaning up after multiple murder" and Wadsworth answers "Yes. Why do you think it's run by a man called Hoover?" (Hoover is a vacuum cleaner manufacturer)). Although not perfectly true to the board game, this movie is still highly recommended (although not for young children, as there is mild sexual content involved).
The Westing Game (1997)
Why Did They Mess Up A Great Children's Book?
I just finished reading the Westing Game a couple years ago, and one day when I was searching on the IMDb for a completely different topic, this movie turned up. I have not seen it, but by simply looking at the cast list, I know they did something wrong. How did they louse it up? Let me count the ways.
CHARACTERS 1 Got Rid Of Madame Hoo (& Thus The Burglary Plot) 2 Got Rid Of Flora Baumbach (& Thus Turtle's Confidante) 3 Got Rid Of Mister Theodorakis (& Thus Violet Westing Connection) 4 Got Rid Of Theo Theodorakis (& Thus Chris' Caretaker) 5 Got Rid Of Edgar Plum (& Thus Somewhat Humorous Idiotic Lawyer)
SUBPLOTS 1 Burglary 2 Stocks 3 Violet Westing & Mister Theodorakis
MISCELLANEOUS 1 And So On
Why Did They Let This Happen To A Great Children's Book? Shame On Whoever Did This!
