American Horror Story: Winter Kills (2021)
ahs just can't help it's self
Wow, they really just balled up this story and threw it into the trash. Also i'm as much of a liberal as the next guy, but why throw in this forced political take?! Also also leslie grossman is insufferable. Why did her and the brat kid make it to the end?! Absolutely unbelievable..
Possum (2018)
Underrated Chiller
I was putting off this film for a while, and I wish I hadn't. Possum is an unsettling look at our darkest versions of ourselves. Similar to early silent German expressionism, mixed with artsy horror of the 70's. It's not for everyone, but if you enjoy slow burns with open interpretation, check it out for sure. I felt so uneasy watching this film, and the ending had my hands covering my mouth in horror. definitely worth a try
I'll Be Gone in the Dark (2020)
These reviews are moronic
All the reviews that say "iT's mAiNlY aBoUt ThE aUtHoR" are so stupid. that's how it was advertised. it never said it was strictly about the GSK. you can't watch the Leaving Neverland documentary and get upset that they don't talk about MJ's music. seriously people.
as for the documentary, its good! Michelle's story is intriguing and relatable as a fellow crime enthusiast. at times it does jump around a bit but I don't feel lost watching it. give it a try!
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Don't believe the paid reviews
The MOST overhyped "horror" movie in the genre. I just dont freaking get it. Acting was sub-par, story line was jumpy, and the big "twist" is revealed right in the beginning!!! There is absolutely no mystery going on here. The big "joke" (at least that's what I'm calling it) is that every move in a horror movie is planned out and follows a formula. SO WHY ARE WE WATCHING THIS? Even the stereotypical cast is overdone and annoying. Sure the underground ending was a little interesting but it just doesn't make up for the rest of this stupid movie.
Mother! (2017)
Stop over analyzing and killing the experience!
I was interested in this film the moment I saw the trailer. Aronofsky has a unique story telling ability and Jennifer Lawrence (despite people not even giving her a chance for god knows what reason) always impresses me with the roles she embodies. The trailer was ominous and vague and definitely intrigued me. However I didn't see it right away because it basically flopped during its release and I was nervous about being disappointed. Now the film is on Hulu and I finally gave it a go one night when I was home alone and I have to say I'm glad I didn't see it in a theater with stupid jump-scare-hungry kids.
I saw this movie as a heartbreaking nightmare. It starts off somewhat normal in somewhat of a reality; it has a timeless feeling and the overall tone is calm and serene. Over the course of the film, their existence is more and more disturbed until their entire world goes up in smoke (spoiler alert, literally). I was nervous about JLaw just playing JLaw and I wouldnt be able to separate the actor from ththe character, but she does a great job of capturing my heart in the beginning and then breaking it by the end.
Was I ever scared during this movie? Probably not. I dont think it's fair to call it a horror film and it only sets people's expectations off course from what it's trying to convey. If you want to see a metaphor for Mother Earth's creation by God and destruction by humans, see it.
To everyone that said "it's oversaturated with symbolism/no pay off at the end/no point to the story/ect.", stick to your Michael Bay movies and bye.
