Miss Americana (2020)
The price of a true fairy tale is high
This Netflix documentary shows that you have to be careful what you ask for. Taylor Swift's life is a fairy tale, but she pays a high price for it. Wanting to be successful and achieving that ultimately makes your life empty.
Dark Waters (2019)
Very realistic and confronting
Dark Waters is a very realistic and confronting film. More up-to-date than ever, the PFAS problem that Dupont has caused worldwide is also affecting the Netherlands very deeply. Through this film you once again realize how important it is that the government and the judiciary protect the health of its citizens. Mark Ruffalo plays a great role in Dark Waters. A film that is well worth the effort.
1917 (2019)
A plea for a united Europe
What a great film, this film is not only beautiful and ingeniously made, but also a plea for a united Europe. Divisions give this kind of war horror. Sam Mendes remindes us of this with this film. 1917 is an total experience because of the way the film was shot, the sound landscape and the good actors. A film that can already be seen as one of the most important of the new 20 decade.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Something is missing
This newest tarantino film makes fun of the Manson gang. That in a way that you can question. The LaBianca / Tate murders were so insane and horrible that I wonder if you should portray this in this way. Although the film is nicely made, I feel that a lot is missing and, above all, it is very, very long. I personally experience that as a pity.
Veearts Maaike (2019)
Fantastic and informative
This is a fantastic Dutch docu on intensive livestock farming, veterinary medicine, antibiotics in cattle, phosphate rights of farmers, and the capacities and ambitions of a female veterinarian in the North of the Netherlands. what this documentary clearly shows is that the position of veterinarian is a poor position. Not just veterinary or medical, but also informative and in a way enforcing. Beautiful documentary that is really worth it.
Midsommar (2019)
Awesome and mindblowing
This is Rosemary's Baby from Roman Polanski and Ingmar Bergman's A Midsummer Night's Dream in one. Everything in this film is great. The story, the actors, the camerawork, a deep deep bow to Ari Aster. A mindblowing film. One of the best i have seen.
