No One Will Save You (2023)
No pay off
The trailer looked appealing to warrant my investment in watching, but I found myself getting bored half way into watching this film. What a shame that there wasn't any significant point to this film other than the main character's remorse of the accidental death of her friend, by her own hands. How did this tie into aliens invading her town though? Did I miss the connection? Love Kaitlyn in DopeSick as she is a great young actress, but I felt no connection to her character. Only one line of dialogue late in the film was non-climatic too. Great acting & effects but no resolution in the story. Left me disappointed.
Skinamarink (2022)
Worst horror movie EVER
My only question: where did the filmmakers spend the $15k on this movie? To pay people to rate it over a 5, would be my guess. No plot, no action, horrible cinematography. I don't mind slow burn movies, if there is a pay off. But this movie goes no where. Painful to sit through as it's nothing but grainy film and whispers. Zero story, I mean no plot whatsoever. I love supporting independent film making, but this was just horrible beyond what I can even share. Take the trailer and replay it 100 times. That's the entire movie. I never write reviews but I had to after sitting through that garbage.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Disaster
Two episodes in and I'm shaking my head!! Why would you start a reboot with killing off a major character? It's depressing AF. Zero entertainment value. This is not the series I once loved. Nothing enjoyable about watching these two episodes. Left me in tears for more ways than one. Highly regretting renewing HBO Max just to watch the series! Where do you even go from here? Are they going to have Carrie banging dudes again just to try to go back to the way she was in her 30's now that Big is dead? Feels very overdone in terms of racial & gender issues too. And Miranda & Charlotte are unwatchable. Barf.
Joker (2019)
Phenomenal performance by Joaquin Phoenix
I don't write film reviews but my experience watching 'Joker' compelled me to share how profound I thought Joaquin Phoenix's performance was.
For the record, I hate comic book/superhero films. I am drawn to character based, mostly independent studio film making. This film is a heart wrenching depiction of mental illness and society's intolerance of it. Every second Joaquin's complex depiction of this character is flawless. In fact, I will boldly say it's the best acting I have every witnessed. Second to Joaquin's performance is the brilliant composer's score throughout this film. Both deserve every award and critics' praise.
