Talk to Me (I) (2022)
5/10
Middle of the road.
15 September 2023
Generally speaking horror films tend to be derivative. There's nothing wrong with that but without keen vision and direction the film can just be lame, which is pretty much where this ended up. <-- That's my review.

Modern Horror Movies: The Rise and Fall of a Genre Abstract: The horror movie genre appears to be slowly declining, with many films being criticized as unoriginal and uninventive. But is this fair? It may be time for horror movies to evolve, as they have done throughout history.

In recent years, some horror movies have been criticized as unoriginal and uninventive. This may be true to some extent, but it is also important to remember that horror is a diverse genre that has evolved throughout history.

Prequel to Season 3.
31 December 2022
It's almost as though many of the reviews here were made from the narcissist ward of some insane asylum.

This prequel is an excellent segue into season three, as it helps setup the mythology of the show. At this point I am not sure if it's required to understand season three, but I hope it is so everyone has to watch it, rather than just voting.

The acting is excellent, the story is excellent, and the production is excellent. That to me is win, win, win. You'll win also if you watch this.

It reminds me of another off season prequel from Spartacus when Andy Whitfield was sick, and eventually died. It was possible to watch the main series, but it was much better having seen Blood and Sand.

I recommend this to anyone whether they are a Witcher fan or no. This shows the origin and reasons for many things.

The quality of movies has gone so far down...
18 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The quality of movies has gone so far down reviewers and especially critics will laude anything that vaguely resembles what a good film is. I think this is how reviewers keep their jobs.

'In Bruges' a film featuring Gleeson and Farrell that came out in 2008 is clearly a better film, yet has a lower imdb and critic rating. Why? Because film is dead now, and all the good stories have gone to TV, or big budget superhero films, which are cool.

This film is not a bad film, but with so little to say, it takes long enough to say it. An hour and fifty three minutes to be exact. The location is beautiful and the acting was decent. Life's an existential quagmire. Cutting off your fingers and isolating your friends won't stave off that reality.

If you're really jonsin' for this type of theme, may I recommend Lord Jim, or Apocalypse Now!. Good luck.

A big risk.
3 December 2022
When I think about this show I think about Raised By Wolves. On paper the production team should have pulled off a win, but it was doomed for failure. On paper this series shows great promise, and perhaps it will deliver. But then again I am reminded of Man In the High Tower, which fizzled into nothing.

Perhaps Amazon is green lighting projects that show promise, but let's not forget the number of recent failures the button counters have green lighted, reminded again of High Tower, and the audacious attempt to remake Utopia.

Having said all that, the points many of the other users made are valid. The pace is deliberate. Clearly there's reward in stretching the show into multiple seasons. I personally don't care much about pace. However, I would have rather seen more content in the same amount of episodes or more episodes. You see, the reward for sitting through this setup should have paid off more than it did.

I don't know the book. Frankly, William Gibson bores me. Snow Crash has been in pre-production for ten years or something. Maybe one of these mega producers will make it happen and we can finally get a chance to see the finest cyberpunk in the history of cyberpunk. After all, Stephenson coined the metaverse when Zuckerberg was popping pimples. Having said all that, having never read the book this story was based on, I just hope it can be wrapped up in one more season.

Attack on Titan - Chronicle
13 November 2022
So I'm doing this review with speech to text to try to make the minimum amount of words.

I've seen this movie twice. Yesterday, and in 2016. I didn't remember I'd already seen it.

This is a pretty cool film. Definitely what Haruma Miura will be remembered for. Easy to understand why fans of this movie who have never seen the anime, would be upset by all the negative reviews. I get that.

As a fan of the series I understand why other fans would give poor reviews to the film. But there's a lot to appreciate here. Why not enjoy all of it?

So what I'd like to do is recommend that fans of the movie who have never seen the series look up @ttack on Titan 'Chronicle'. The very first 5 minutes should help movie fans understand "why the zeal?"

&nd series fans really need to give this movie a look and try to imagine you've never seen the series. It's a pretty intense movie. Twice I was reminded of "The Host (Gwoemul)" while watching.

Enjoy.

The best Tolkien work ever put to pictures.
17 October 2022
I'll just get all of this out of the way. Yes, I saw the movies, yes I've read The Hobbit, LOTRs and the Silmarillion. All were wonderful, with LOTRs being the ultimate finale of the world Tolkien created.

But there's a world of stories preceding LOTRs which sets the landscape (literally) for the sequels that follow. To understand the creation of the world one must first go back to the Silmarillion. This is where many of the referenced material in this new show comes from. Who was Suaron and what made him the ultimate nemesis in the LOTRs? This show will lay a foundation only strengthening the future timeline, and for many this will explain and enhance those movies beloved by many.

Then there is the production, acting, sets, locations, all perfect and amazing! I was blown away by this show, and am looking forward towards a new season for an opportunity to enhance everything that has come before.

Hellraiser (2022)
7/10
Very Clive Barker.
9 October 2022
I liked this film quite a bit. Obviously or I wouldn't have given it an 8.

I've read a lot of Clive's early work and I feel this movie was true to his vision of horror. I am glad the sfx and technology available can produce the effects.

This was really the best version of this movie since the original with Larry Robinson (Garak DS9) and Doug Bradly.

It added much mythos to the story, giving watchers a new and richer understanding of the underlying motivation for the Cenobites. There really isn't much to complain about in this movie (though I am sure people, being people, will) with the exception of some pretty obvious plot elements. But at the end of the day I really have nothing but praise for this movie. It possibly even sets up a sequel within the Hellraiser world providing a new plot line.

Nope (2022)

Misses the mark completely.
26 August 2022
If you're considering paying to see this film this weekend, please take my advice and save your money. There is nothing compelling about this film other than Keith David, Michael Wincott and Steven Yeun who have woefully little screen time.

The story-line itself goes in several directions failing to meet up with any satisfying resolution, specifically Steven Yeun's. If you're a fan of Jordan Peele, stay home and watch him on YouTube with Keegan-Michael Key because it's free and there's a lot of content. Peele is hit or miss when it comes to Sci-Fi/Drama.

The rest of this review is just to use up space, since the IMDb has decided the quality of it's site apparently relies on the content of it's users.

Molech
17 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film is pretty great. It's a basic revenge story that seems to get its inspiration from an ancient Canaanite religious practice, worshipping molech a god with a bull head (who was later demonized) structuring the plot based on this to create an interesting storyline.

It was a pleasure seeing Neal Maskell (Utopia) play the title role. This is a film with a lot more going on than the viewer witnesses at first glance. It's disappointing seeing many viewers didnt enjoy the film, but you can't blame them considering the source material is utterly obscure.

Completely cliché.
21 June 2022
This show is so predictable yet still enjoyable. Everything in the story has been explored in other, better shows. I enjoy it despite that. The beautiful locations make it worthy of viewing alone.

A number of bad plot choices really weaken the overall story as we see the same mistakes over and over again driving the plot along well past the subplots expiration, in my opinion.

Season 3 is coming and I am looking forward to it even though I could probably provide a reasonably accurate guess as to what is planned.

This is a very silly movie. Just like the new restrictions on posting reviews with one-hundred and fifty characters. Sometimes short and sweet is all that's needed.

Obviously other reviewers never heard of The Asylum
8 June 2022
Lover them or hate them, it's The Asylum baby. I can see a lot of you are new, so here's the information to help understand the greatest low budget, straight to video, mockbuster production company ever.

The Asylum is an American independent film company and distributor that focuses on producing low-budget, direct-to-video films. The company has produced titles that capitalize on productions by major studios, often using film titles and scripts very similar to those of current blockbusters in order to lure customers. These titles have been dubbed "mockbusters" by the press.

Halo: Inheritance (2022)

Seemed fine to me.
16 May 2022
I'm not a fanboi and I don't believe in the ethos of a TV show based on a crappy game made by Microsoft. I have seen several thousand episodes of shows and found nothing particularly awful about this episode of Halo.

I find people's reaction to the episode far more disturbing than the episode itself.

Very cliche, poorly written show. Great cast, beautiful scenery but lacking any compelling story line. Too much music in attempt to corral emotions than actual drama.

The show has been so well planned with ideas, plots, and themes, spread over such a wide breadth of time, it's taken me several re-watches to fully grasp the masterpiece it is. Adding to that is how brilliant it is, with deep insight. It's a show for creators of shows: a shows' show. Of the hundreds of series I've watched, this is one of my top 3.

Sublimely wonderful.
28 April 2022
This movie has enchanted me since I first saw it on VHS many years ago. If you look here, I believe I have rated over 3000 films, and this falls into my top 10. An important film because it was directed by John Schlessinger famous for 'Midnight Cowboy', and 'Marathon Man', as well as a host of other great films. It stars Ian McKellen and Kate Beckinsale (in an early roll for Kate) in unconventional roles. It also features some other well known actors specifically Rufus Sewell, and Freddie Jones. I recommend this film to people who enjoy great dialog and English humor.

26 April 2022
The terrible reception and down voting reviews aside, this film was an excellent addition to the Soprano's Canon. I am guessing that the majority of the bad reception is due to the unique dialect of the tri-state area and the pace of its delivery. Ultimately it's just too difficult for a dimwit to watch and broken brains lead to saddened trolls.

Privileged white men.
25 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was loving this movie until that racist comment. Hollywood has a go with the flow mentality and the flow du jour is persecuting white men. Racist stereotypes of all sorts should be excluded. Two wrongs don't make it right. I'm sorry that this film went in that direction because I was really enjoying it. If I want an agenda driven movie I'll just watch a documentary.

Also, nothing will ever beat Nolan's Batman.

A groundbreaking film helping us visualize the journey beyond the terrestrial and into space. Visually beautiful in Kubrick's clean, unique style. An important film opening the door to a much beloved genre.

Don't get me wrong, this episode is awesome. But it didn't quite resolve the really interesting plot line, proto-molecule. This show is the greatest sci-fi I've ever seen. I'm sorry to see it go. Hoping we'll see more soon.

I can't believe how good visual story telling has become. Stories like this are creating an entirely new ethos for a future generations. It will be labeled a hundred different ways by reviewers, but it's legacy will endure past the hate. It's inspirational and smart. If you enjoy that kind of entertainment then this is for you.

This movie is awesome. It can finally be realized with the brilliant sfx available today. The negative user reviews are malcontents and book fans, who will never be happy with anything, so ignore them. The user rating of 8.3 and # 124 in the IMDB Top 250 speak for themselves.
