The First Omen (2024)
Worse Than Exorcist Believers (Almost)
This movie is slow, boring, not scary and dumb. It borrows blatantly from the ORIGINAL Omen but lacks the atmosphere, intelligence and story telling. There is also an incredibly overused wailing lady voice soundbite that will quickly become annoying as HELL as the movie goes on. Do yourself a favour and skip this and watch the original (even the trilogy would be a better watch than this).
Beyond that the acting is alright, nothing spectacular. Hey, by the way, did you know that chimpanzees make and use tools? The create spears and hunt monkeys and squirrels with them. That kind of makes them primitive people, don't you think? Maybe we outta stop killing them.
The Life & Times of Abdullah the Butcher (2011)
Does it exist?
I have searched high and low and I can not find any evidence that this suppossed 3 and one half hour documentary even exists. If anyone any where has seen or truly knows that this documentary exists I woild love it if they would post something here in the review section saying so. When I was a young boy, many many years ago, I loved Andre absolutely, but I was scared of Abdullah absolutely.
I need another 200 characters (which is ridiculous) so here is some other stuff about Abdullah. He is very fat. He has a very ugly forehead. He hit Hannibal with a real glass coffee pot without telling him beforehand that he was gonna do it and made Hannibal juice like a squeezed orange.
From (2022)
Season 1 = 7/10 Season 2 = 3/10
Even in season one I noted that some of the acting was bad, some of the writing was bad and there were a few glaring logic holes, but the season was interesting enough to keep me watching, and visually I enjoyed the monster effects and gratuitous gore. I ended season one craving the second season. Oh, the second season. Nothing much happens, except for near-constant pointless dialogue. The writing becomes much worse (and very aimless) and a pile of new people are thrown in for not much reward. The bad acting would stand out more if it wasn't just so damn boring. Oh, and they seemed to have changed the monster effect for some reason. I am not craving a third season.
Old (2021)
Not Good
First off I will say that I have always considered this director to be hit and miss. And of his films that I do like, I find them to be very vanilla and whitebread. Almost wholesome. That said, this film pretty much sucks. Bad acting, terrible dialogue, poor camera shots, no character building or even real introduction, loopholes and terrible science. I think this might be his worst film yet.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Boooooring
I personally think that zombies are the most boring of movie monsters. The shuffle (or shamble) around trying to eat people. The end. However, with Snyder directing and Bautista starring I thought maybe this film would be a bit more exciting. Nope.
It is as boring as the zombies (including the 'smart' ones - they are boring too). Alot more talking than action and the action is typical of zombie films - people being bitten, zombies being shot in the head and repeat. And the story line is kinda so-what and, you guessed it, boring too.
Volcano (1997)
Science Be Damned
While Volcano is an alright little disaster film, nothing special, it will cause anyone with even the most basic scientific knowledge to yell at the screen and perhaps even huff loudly and roll eyes.
This review does not contain spoilers, nuts, eggs or dairy products.
Family Guy: You Can't Handle the Booth (2019)
Nope.
Not only is this a terrible episode, it is lazy. Shame on all involved. Now here is some filler gibberish just like you might find in this episode. You call those shoes? That reminds me. Sarah Paulson. Sarah Paulson. On the other hand.
Expedition Week: Eating with Cannibals (2011)
Exploitative drivel
Honestly I went into this knowing that these types of short television documentaries are generally set up in advance and geared towards presenting some form of excitement or suspense for the viewer. What I wasn't expecting was the sheer level of exploitation of the tribal peoples of the Papua New Guinea villages visited. Certainly the production crew were there well ahead of time, arranging meetings and offering payments - that is how these types of shows work. But the host of the program shows absolutely no regard for any cultural displays presented to him, asking people over and over again "have you eaten human meat?". The phrase, human meat, is used a remarkable number of times, both towards the subjects and the viewer. There were a few instances where villagers are relating experiences of cannibalism with a grin, or a villager listening in the background is looking to others and grinning, which gives the feeling that the stories are simply that - stories, either coerced by the producers (perhaps for a fee) or simply to pull the silly white people's leg. What really struck me was towards the end of the program, as the host is preparing to leave a village, he wants to speak one more time with one of the main subjects. He is informed the subject doesn't want to speak as he has become sick with 'malaria' and his been awake all night sweating and with a high fever. Regardless, the subject is brought outside anyway to relate some more stories all the while looking absolutely depressed and dejected and no doubt feeling awful. I actually came away from this show feeling guilty, not due to the subject matter, but due to the blatantly ignorant and exploitative treatment of the indigenous people involved.
Ancient Mysteries: Ancient Altered States (1996)
No Science
This is just above the kind of 'serious' documentary you might see on A&E about ghosts or something of that ilk. There is truly no real straight science to be found here, just the typical historical stories and some 2- bit hypotheses. It does remain interesting from the historical viewpoint, but you will learn nothing true with regards to the science behind the effects of psychotropic drugs or psychology. Always neat to hear Leonard Nimoy though, ho-hum. Just goes to show that A&E and History channel are just more media crud. Sad really. I believe that the IMDb rule for ten lines is nonsense as not all films on here need that many lines ( as defined by the preview window, not the written window! ) and so I will do my best to defy and if they will make a point of denying this and my future reviews, let's see:)
