Shaman Kingu (2001)
English version massacred it
I hope no one here is judging it by the English version... they completely changed it, removing all Japanese references, changing the character's names, and making it for little kids. Certain character's names stayed to same, such as Yoh Asakura, Amidamaru, and Anna, but many of them changed. Manta Oyamada became Morty Manta. Ryu became Rio. Lien Tao, who is Chinese, became Lenny... who is British. Horohoro became Trey. An entire storyline got cut from the English version... a storyline that explains how Yoh gets his sword. In the English version he just kind of has it suddenly, and Rio suddenly has a spirit ally. All Japanese writing, even on signs in the distant background, were either changed to English or whited out. Thankfully, 4Kids has released an uncut version on DVD, though they kept the English names.
Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ: Myûtsû no Gyakushû (1998)
Not bad, actually
Most people hate it because it's Pokemon. Well, actually, in Japan, Pokemon's really good. It's horrible in America thanks to dubbing and cutting scenes. The japenese version went more into the story of Mewtwo's past, and why he is like he is now. And to those who think Anime's all the same... note that a lot of animes are a LOT different in Japan before they come to America, and if it was kept the same the movie would be PG-13. The entire first season of Yu-Gi-Oh was skipped in America because Yugi kills people. Pokemon is a lot more violent in Japan, and the characters aren't as childish and annoying. In the beginning of the original Pokemon movie, it was about one of the failed Mewtwos. One of the scientists was also creating a clone of his dead daughter. Her and mewtwo form a mental link and become friends, but something goes wrong, causing the girl to die, and mewtwo learns of pain.
Still think it's all little kid stuff?
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
I actually liked it
Who would want to see a movie about a short, fat, italian plumber jumping on turtles? I think that Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo played their roles well. I liked it mainly because I didn't expect it to be like the games, because, as stated above, that would be worse. When I first saw the movie, being about 5 at the time, there were three things I wondered: "Where's Bowser?", "Why's Yoshi so small?", and "What the hell is going on?" but now that I understand it more, I find it more enjoyable. I would like to see another Mario movie made, not one like this... they should make an animated movie, based on the games. What I'm REALLY hoping they make is a Legend of Zelda movie, which I'm sure many others are hoping for someday as well. They are, however, making a Metroid movie.
